The War Wagon

Got a local sheetmetal/fabman sizing up my RC currently, to build a custom set of rocksliders (w/kickouts).  I'll keep the group posted as to how it goes...

What size retangle or square tubing are you going to use?

As he's the fab man, I don't know.  I have suggested using HEAVIER guage, as we're going to weld it to the frame, and, this monster weighs at least 3 tons as it is.  I don't want the weight of the truck to crush its OWN sliders!!!

Just make sure he uses thick wall tubing or Rectangle tubing. If not, you said he is a sheet metal guy he may just grab some thin wall tube or heck exhaust pipe and weld it up there and make it look pretty. You want Function and pretty. All those smittybuilt side steps you see on new trucks today are all thin wall tubing. and they crush like sheet metal.

This guys is supposed to be one of the best guys around on sliders.  And the first thinhg I pointed out was the weight of the truck.  His shop is about an hour away, and he's coming over to the shop to go over the RC in person, so I think that's a good sign.  I'll keep you posted.

I've seen some sliders that looked good on our trucks.  I like the ones on the rear corners. Seems like a common crunch point.  I've been toying with the idea of some diamond plate on the lower sheet metal for some protection. Anyone ever used that stuff.  Any pointers with that old school tech?

any word on the sliders??  I'm looking to build some of my own. i was given a joint (20') of 2x2" 1/4 wall square tubing.   Think i'm gonna bolt mine on instead of weld just in case..lol  I'll post pics when I start on it....

I am curious as well. A nice set of Rock Sliders just does not seem to be available for the RC.

I made these for my RC. Mostly just as a step but I feel like it should help keep damage to a minimum.
