yea the tube is held in by a bellhousing bolt. ive used two people on it already one to hold it in and one to tighten it. im gonna give it one more try. the truck doesnt have any codes just 12 (battery recently disconected) and 55 (end of codes). im thinking that its an injector sticking and flooding it. but it doesnt do it all the time, only every now and then when coming to idle. i dont have the equipment to check the spray pattern. other than that issue the truck runs perfect.

As I recall you can check the injectors for good electronics if needed. I have a spare injector as well if you want to try and replace one. I ordered one thinking I had a bad one, no I had a wire on the header  :violent1:

im still fighting tranny leaks on the 89. it likes to leak around the dipstick tube were it goes into the case. tried new gaskets and several tubes. leaks everytime.

Yes there is a bracket and bolt that holds it to the bell housing but there is an 0-ring on the end of the dipstick tube in that little groove.  Sometimes these dry out, get cut, crack or shrink.  I had a brand new rebuilt once that leaked here and that's what it was.  Even the rebuilders overlook it sometimes.

Also, if the fluid level is too high it can leak out through there.

I really don't wanna throw parts at it yet. I'm gonna try to go through some diagnostics and see what I can find. The thing I don't understand is that I drove it all day today no problems then drove into town stalled once, finnaly got it restarted cleared it out and it was back idling fine. Didn't do it any more after that, as with the transmission leak I'm gonna try to inspect the case itself and if I don't find any problems there I will get a new o ring seal and try to carefully put It in one more time.

Found out today that when it stall if I turn off the ignition and let it sit for 30 to 45 seconds it fires back up immediately. If I try to restart it immediately its very hard to start. This makes it difficult to see what it's lacking (fuel/spark) causing the stall because the time I go to check what's wrong nothing will be wrong and it will start immediately. So I'm kinda stuck not knowing what to do now.

If it only does it coming back down to an idle I would check the IAC motor.

I thought the same thing at first but I opened the throttle some while trying to start it and it just kept spinning over not firing. Eventually it fired up so I didn't think it was the iac motor after that. But at this point I might just start replacing stuff for the hell of it. I've got a spare iac motor at the shop. It will be goin on this weekend

If the IAC is sticking it can cause the truck to flood on decel and not throw a code. One of the many reasons I put a mag mpfi in my 91.

Ok that's good to know, I'm gonna replace it as soon as I can. I really am getting frustrated with this damn thing. It's diffuult to diagnose. Fixing it is no issue if I could just figure out what's wrong with it.

found the problem. did another code check and got code 15. vehicle speed sensor code, makes sense why it would stall when stopping in drive but not neutral, because the vss tells the idle speed motor to stay open some when decelerating with foot off the gas pedal. so the problem isnt fuel or spark, it was the motor wasnt getting any air.
