well i got rid of my 89 rc LE to make room for something else. i havent finalized the deal yet but its a 2000 dakota clubcab 2wd. 3.9l v6. its a really clean low milage truck with new tires. im getting it so i have something to drive everyday thats not so bad on gas. i will post pics once i finalize the deal on the truck.

sorry to burst your bubble but i don't think you will get much better gas mileage with a 3.9. from what i have read the 3.9 magnum gets about the same gas mileage as the 5.2 when bolted to a auto. also if the plenum gasket leaks the gas mileage could go down hill from the time it starts leaking to the time it is properly fixed.

I worked with a guy that had a 97 or 98 dakota with a 3.9l I had a 95 dakota with a 5.2l... I got better gas millage than he did. Not sure about his plenum gasket (I am sure it was toast) but I was also figuring it was something to do with the engine having to work less to push the truck. :dontknow:

That all may be true but for mine, I feel a world of difference with the size of tires.  When I put the P235/75/15's on, it has power on tap even at freeway speeds and I feel like I get decent mileage for the size of vehicle.

Now when I run the 33's, it is a whole different story.  I've thought about putting my 3.9 in a dakota after I swap motors.  I think it would make a great light weight truggy.

but your 3.9 would be different than the one used in the 92 and newer trucks. plus didn't you rebuilt your 3.9? that could also help.

SixGun

Yep, it's a fresh rebuilt but not a Magnum like that one would be.

Maybe the 3.9 in the Dakota won't get the mileage I'm looking for but it will get a lot better than my 85 rc with the cammed 4bbl 318. I'm averaging about 8 miles per gallon with it right now it's insane. And the 89 rc had multiple issues that I didn't have the money to resolve. It got to the point where it was completely out of commission needing a engine controller among other issues so it had to go. I really didn't wanna get rid of it but I didn't have the time and money to keep dumping into it.

Well now that I've got the Dakota too drive I've got plenty of time to work on the ramcharger. Interior is out getting the floor prepped to but spray in bed liner on the floor. Also got a air box setup off of a magnum engine I'm gonna install to keep mud/water out of the carb. Pics coming soon of the latest progress.

So now that you've been driving it a while, how do you like the 3.9 in the Dak?  Is the mileage better than a V8?

It's pretty decent on gas. It's way better than the rc. And I'm getting better mileage than all my buddies with v8s.
