General Discussion / Just RAM it!
June 02, 2014, 02:32:53 PM
14 year old punk stole grandpa's Hunday in UT this past Saturday, and was terrorizing kids in a park with it.  Local Dodge 2500 owner jumped in his truck looking for the punk, and put a STOP to the chase, O-L-D school!

Just finished watching a Weather Channel special about that tornado - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=sfqqpbSU4jo - as it killed renowned scientist Tim Samaras, his son Paul, and meteorologist Carl Young.

And I think about you, my Ramcharger brothers, with MOST of you being in TX and other parts of tornado alley, a LOT this time of year.  I have half-jokingly expressed the desire to chase tornadoes in MY RC, since I have everything necessary to do so; a cb radio, a JVC Ensario Camcorder, and mad driving skills.  ::)   But I KNOW the RC is the wrong profile vehicle for heavy crosswinds, too lumbering to haul SERIOUS ass (for the moment...), and suitable - at best - for photographing them from many MILES away.

I've been watching Stormchasers, which ran for 6 season on NatGeo, on Youtube of late, as I never watched it back in the day.  I don't remember the series at the time (life - i.e., 'kids' - probably interfered, as it came on at 10pm), although I was fascinated by tornadoes over a decade before "Twister" hit the big screen (a 2 hour commercial for Gen.2 Dodge pickups!  :tongue3: ).  Dr. Samaras favored GM products - a reality that bit him in the ass on at least one episode.  The torque converter died in his 2500 series GMC chase truck, and sidelined him in a GM dealer for 2 days, while other chasers caught all the action.

And that love of GM products is the OTHER thing that cost him his life in the El Reno tornado.  He opted to try and miss the storm, by taking a dirt road, which turned into OK gumbo, and bogged down his chase vehicle THAT day, which was... a Chebby Cobalt!  :o

Some other members of his team had his big truck, on the other side of the storm that day, but I wouldn't chase a RAINBOW with a Chebby Cobalt, much less a 2.6 mile wide F5 tornado, with wind speeds of 300mph.  This is the same tornado that ate The Weather Channel's 4 door Blazer.

So to all my insane RC brothers... while we KNOW that tornadoes SHOULD run in fear of our fire-breathing, ass-kicking, name-taking, tornado-stomping rigs...  ::) ... stay frosty out there, as tornado season is only about half done (we RARELY get one around here, but June is OUR peak month when we do).  Watch those dirt roads in bad weather, and should a tornado impudently DARE to come near you, batten down your hatches - so DEBRIS doesn't get heaped ON your RC, and maybe scratch the paint.  We can't afford to lose any more trucks.

Or you, either.   ;)

1988 Dodge Ramcharger Lifted on 35s 360V8 Tons Of Upgrades 4 Speed - $5990 (Savannah, GA)

Quote  Check out this beast! They don't make them like this anymore. This 1988 Dodge Ramcharger is ready to hit the streets, trails, and mud today. The 360 V8 engine has been upgraded with a Holley carb, Edelbrock intake, MSD coil, long tube headers, performance cam, performance spark plug wires, dual custom exhaust and more. It fires right up, has plenty of power all through the powerband, and runs great. The 4 speed manual transmission shifts smooth and the clutch is strong. It rides well and tracks straight. The 16 inch wheels are wrapped in 35 inch Nitto Terra Grapplers with tons of tread left.
The interior has been spruced up with Mossy Oak seat covers, headliner, and other misc pieces. There is a cd player with am/fm radio, and upgraded speakers. The heat works well but the AC needs to be charged. The exterior is in good shape for the age and mileage.

You don't see many on the road anymore and even less in this good of shape. Come check it out today! We can get you financed and we accept trades. We look forward to helping you anyway we can.

Mileage: 103,311
Priced at: $5,990

Vehicle Help / A518 torque converters
May 24, 2014, 06:54:25 AM
Anyone got any recommendations for beefing up A518 internals, starting with the torque converter?  Trying to make sure all the power I plan on building into my '92 in the future, actually GETS to the wheels!

The leading DEMOCRAP challenger (Tom Wolf) to our current Republican governor here in PA, likes to be seen in his bone-stock weenie TJ - matches his weenie looks and personality, quite frankly.  If he was a car guy, he'd be driving a PINTO.   ::)

Anyhoo, our governor - who I SUPPORT - has fired back in FINE fashion, as I'm sure you'll agree!   :headbang:

Cos' I have a NICE one for sale!

PowerMax PM3-75PFC - see the specs here (middle one on the chart) http://powermaxconverters.com/pm312volt.html

It was an impulse buy this time last year, and I STILL don't have a use for it - only been out of the box for this picture - still anchored to the packing cardboard.  Purchased brand new, and has never been used.

I gave $195 for it then - cheapest I can find it now is $153, so I'll let it go in person for $150  $125!  Shipped 10lbs +/- on your dime otherwise.

PM or e-mail - it's ALL good!

OK... gonna double cardon the rear drive shaft, where it comes OUT of the NP241 t-case, and I need some confirmation on the CV flange, needed to mount it to the NP241.

This be, our NP241!

Note the 10 possible bolt holes, where one can mate a CV flange to the business end of the t-case.

THIS be, how I want to mate it TO the t-case - http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/p1047_ford_1350_series_double_cardan_cv_flange_yoke.html - which LOOKS like this;

With 4 bolts holes, it would seem there are plenty of choices on the t-case flange to ALLOW the two mate up, and then it's simply a matter of mating the cardon to the flange, and the other half to the driveshaft...

Or is it TOUGHER than I have imagined?   :dontknow:   THAT, gentlemen... is the question...

I suppose to could be done on the cheap with spacers, BUT... if you wanted to do it the RIGHT way (so you could run Gen.III 9 1/4" rear disc brakes correctly), what all's involved in doing so.  How tough is it then to convert the FRONT brakes as well?

Junkyard Find: 1978 Dodge Ramcharger
By Murilee Martin on December 4, 2013

QuoteEven though Denver wrecking yards are always full of old trucks, the Dodge Ramcharger isn't quite as common as its GM, Ford, and Jeep rivals. In fact, this Royal SE '83 Ramcharger is the only example we've seen in this series, prior to today's find. This tan Dodge is every bit as Malaise-y as the yellow '76 Wagoneer we saw last month, so let's look at these photos and imagine what it was like driving a 9 MPG truck during a period of high inflation and steep gas prices...

You can read more of the article at the link, but check out the 1978 Chrysler video, comparing the Ramcharger, Bronco, and Blazer head-to-head!

Between the fire ants and the CRAZY ants, your homes and your electronics (such as they are in pre-'92 Ramchargers...  :tongue3: ) will be eaten alive!!!  :o :o :o

Houston braces for invasion of 'Crazy Ants'

By Robert Gearty
Published March 26, 2014

FoxNews.com

"But when all is said and done I guarantee you, you'd rather have the fire ants because they are much easier to deal with."

- Tom Rasberry, Texas exterminator -

QuoteThis is one horror film plot that may be all too real: Billions of voracious ants are about to descend on the Houston area, destroying entire homes and anything else that gets in their way.

Rasberry Crazy Ants, even more destructive and mobile than their angry cousins, fire ants, are just weeks away from descending on the largest city in Texas. Since 2008, the ants, which entomologists believe came to Texas from South America aboard a cargo ship in the 1930s, have expanded their presence to 27 counties from just eight. Once in a home, they zero in on electrical systems, chewing through insulation and causing short circuits and general havoc.

"I've been in houses where every time you took a step you'd literally be stepping on thousands of ants with each step," exterminator Tom Rasberry told FoxNews.com.

And all we hafta worry about in PA, is emission inspections and rust!  :icon_scratch:
