Wanted or Trades / have slant six, want small block
August 08, 2016, 08:41:33 PM
Y'all should remember Nick.  He came with me a number of times to Hidden Falls.  He supplied the pipe the fire pits were made with.  He has just bought an 80 something short bed 2x truck with a good running slant six and auto tranny.  He wants to replace it with a small block of any size and a transmission to match.  Anyone got a spare small block?  Anyone interested in a slant six?  Nick lives in Iola, works in a gas plant in Crockett and has time to travel to pick up and deliver.

My son just bought a 5.7 Hemi.  It had most of a cop car around it.  He's got rid of the cop car and wants a NV4500 to go with it in his Jeep Scrambler.  Any leads?

Cars and Trucks for Sale / 79 RC 2x
February 05, 2016, 02:48:37 PM
There's what appears to be a 79 2x RC in the impound yard at Fort Worth.  The VIN they have listed is not correct but I think it came with a 318.  The top is messed up and sitting on it sideways.  The current bid on it is $150 and it has almost a week till bid closing.

You can look at it here:

Projects / 94 ZJ
December 04, 2015, 07:00:51 AM
Some of you know that I bought 3 Jeep ZJs at impound auctions, 94.96 and 97.

Only the 94 was a 4x.  We turned the 97 into a parts car and my grand-daughter is driving the 96.  I put the 97 grille and bumper on the 94 so basically it looked identical to the 96.  I bought a set of plans and built the winch bumper that's on it now, eventually adding pull points and moving the license plate to a flip up cover over the faring and winch and rope hook.

I put turbine wheels and 31x10.5 tires that my daughter bought from Ryan on the Jeep, having to space them out 1.5 inches to clear the sway bar.

Next I added a Rough Country 3.5" lift to get it to the last look.

Still left to do is a skid plate under the transfer, because I'm not breaking another one and a skid plate under the gas tank, because there's fragile electric pump parts in there.  Also, there is one more plate under the bumper, from the bumper to the factory skid plate.

It has a 4.0, 373 gears, a 242 transfer case that gives it full time and part time and it starts regularly.

News / cheby pulling beast
November 30, 2015, 08:13:57 PM
My daughter, Bruce's wife, Georgia's mother, recently had her suburban totaled.  She picked up her replacement today.  Ernest will be drooling...

2002 3/4 ton, 4x4 GMC suburban (Yukon XL) with a 8.1 L engine, Allison tranny and 373 gears with a rear locker.

She should not have problem getting the horse to the rodeos but she may have a problem finding enough gasoline...

Projects / 57 Power Wagon
October 13, 2015, 01:18:02 PM
Well, I finally got Aaron paid and picked up the 57 truck.  It needs a lot of work but there is potential.

It will become my only project, outside of lifting the Grand Cherokee so the tires stop rubbing.

Here is a picture that Aaron took a year or two back.  It still looks the same except there are more flats now.  The license plate on the front says 1965!  I guess this truck has been sitting in some pasture, somewhere, for almost 50 years.  It shows less than 30k miles on the odometer.

Where to start?

Cars and Trucks for Sale / Jeep pickup for sale
August 24, 2015, 06:12:42 PM
A guy working on one of our freezers at work has a 56 Jeep Pickup he needs to sell.  I will post pics when I can get them on the right computer.

It has a decent cab, no bed.  It has factory axles, transmission, transfer and a PTO.  However, the engine in it is a cheby straight 6.  It has had some frame repair that might need to be cleaned up.

It also has a clean title.  It is located in Bryan or College Station, TX. and he will want $1000 but probably take a considerably lesser amount.

Anyone interested in further information?

Vehicle Help / new Jeep starting issue...
August 22, 2015, 09:04:01 PM
I have a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee I have been building for my grand-daughter.  This is Courtney, not Georgia.  She's a high school senior.

The Jeep has a 4.0 engine with a Chrysler transmission.  This was bought from an impound auction.  It had enough radiator stop leak to stop a 2" crack in the plastic radiator.  Of course wasn't much room for water...

After all that was taken care of it takes spells of simply not starting after it has been sitting for a while.  Turns over but no start.  I thought it was the fuel pump but with a gauge on the fuel rail I get 40# with the 2 second prime and it runs consistently at 50#.

I thought it might be the coil and low and behold it had a coil identical to a Magnum coil attached.  It was spliced into the harness with scotch locks.  The terminal on the coil was so corroded I couldn't see how it fired at all.

Ran pretty good for a week or so with a real Jeep coil and now it is back to same old tricks.  A couple of times it would start immediately after I bled the pressure off the injector rail and other times it would start after a few minutes without doing anything.

It has cut out a couple of times and acted like it was trying to die, ending up with a backfire out the exhaust and starting running again.

To me, this is a decrease of battery power to the coil.  I had this happen once with a 318 in a small motor home when the alternator quit and it build up gasoline in the muffler.  In fact, it blew up the muffler.

Ernest had one acting similar.  It had some other issues and they decided to get rid of it.  There are NO codes.

Anyone got any suggestions?

General Discussion / Quarter Horse show stuff
August 05, 2015, 12:14:37 AM
I wouldn't push this so much but a lot of you have met Georgia, my grand-daughter.  She has been on a couple of rides with us, both at General Sam's and Hidden Falls. We just got back from Oklahoma City, where she placed 6th overall in the youth barrels and 3rd in the 13 and under age group.

This was the "world" show.  That makes her 3rd in the world, under 13.  And, her time was only 13/100 of a second below the fastest time.

Field started out with 86 riders.  Top 15 made the finals.  The two girls that beat her in the 13 and under class are daughters of professional barrel racers, riding their mothers' horses.  Georgia owns her horse.

General Discussion / purple jeep is home!!!
July 03, 2015, 06:24:37 PM
Ok, so now I have bought three Jeep Grand Cherokees from impound auctions.(Total of $1200)  The last one I bought was a 96 for $200.  It turned out to be the best of the bunch but only 2x.  So, grand daughter has it.  We took the 97 and removed a bunch of good parts, enough to make some big improvements to the purple jeep and get the 96 on the road.  Only one door is the wrong color.

I changed out the entire grille assembly and front bumper cover on the purple Jeep because I still couldn't find parts to make the 94 headlights adjustable.  Now it looks like a 96 or 97.  Richard picked me up parts that never made it to the Jeep.  Grand-daughter had it till today.

There's still enough parts to make the AC work on the 94 too.  It had a hole where something went through the coil.

Now I can work on the red Cherokee for off road and maybe come and play next time.  The purple Jeep is rated to pull 5000 pounds.  I guess I should come up with a car hauler for the red Cherokee.

The 57 PowerWagon will still be coming, sooner or later.

Ok, I have a big block 727 with a 203 transfer.  I'm not really sure which transfer is coming in the 57 powerwagon.  One source says it is a 201 and another source says it is a 202.

Is there a chance of using the 201 or 202 in place of a 205 to make a doubler to go behind the 383?

Whichever transfer it is, it will be divorced.

General Discussion / We still need a logo, don't we?

What about this?

Many of you have met my grand-daughter, Georgia Ray.  She is a sixth grader, running barrels and poles in Jr High Rodeo.  As one of the younger girls in our region, she is doing well.  She is 3rd in both barrels and poles.  She has been with me both to General Sam's and to Hidden Falls.

She is currently raising money for the Jr Hi Rodeo system and has tickets for a $29,000 2 horse, bumper pull, 2015 Bloomer Trailer.  They are $50 each should anyone be interested.

She also can sell ads in the program for the 2015 State Final Rodeo in Gonzales, Texas if anyone would be interested in that.  Ads run from $50 for a business size to $200 or so for a full page.  State finals start on Memorial Day and last for a week.

I'm not pushing on these.  She is so close to covering everything required that it is not a problem.  This is for anyone interested.

This vehicle was impounded in Odessa, TX about a year ago.  It was impounded from private property and apparently for something that was very minor.  I bought it through an on-line auction and spent almost as much going to get it as I paid for it.

Having the storage lien and sale packet is supposed to be a quick exchange for a title but I found out that the original title had been out of state.  I'm hoping that will not be an issue.
