Title: Rear compartment carpet. 84 RC Houston, Texas
Post by: joemouton on October 19, 2013, 10:08:42 AM
I was wondering if anyone could help me with finding a factory quality rear compartment carpet replacement. I have a hole in mine that is about six inches in diameter.

One of the things I'm looking at doing with mine, is getting rid of the carpet altogether.  This makes it a MUCH more user-friendly vehicle - especially for cleanup!  :sunny:

I too went with the vinyl floor covering.  I would recommend staying away from the jute insulation underneath though.  It is usually the source of problems later as it retains moisture. I used a product that you can pick up at any hardware store.  It is water proof and works as a sound deadener and insulation also.  It is very moldable and I used headliner glue to hold it in place. I used it on my door panels, floor and around the corners and back of the cab.

If I remember correctly, he runs kiddos on long trips to go camping with the boyscouts.  Sound insulation would help on long trips.  Just ask Ryan about that with his Mexico Ramcharger.  He did some trips without the insulation and he said it was loud inside.

Well I appreciate all the help. Right now this is going to be a daily driverish vehicle. I am putting it in almost kind of restored vehicle. I would much rather have the carpet for now. But I did find a place that provides carpet replacement. Just in case any one else is interested. The vinyl is nice but it doesn't come in the color of my interior. Also, in the event that I would need to sleep in the back the carpet would be much more comfortable.

i would still put some type of paint under the carpet just in case. they got some stuff called lizard skin that is suppose to act like insulation.
