So trying to tweak a few things to get ready for the moab trip

Installed a new alpine radio with a backup camera. So much better than stock!!

Also just got the onboard air compressor for the air bags installed, that will be nice to have again!!

I need to change the fuel and water seaperator filters as well as change the transmission fluid before the trip, otherwise i think its about set

I did just do a full brake job on my trailer wirh repacking the bearings so it too is ready to roll!

Less than a month away

Fix wipers
Install roll bar/cage
Build tire carrier
Install driving cameras
Look into front suspension binding
Insulate floor and roof
Look into transmission pan leak
Get valve stems replaced on spare tires

I felt like i was makinf peogress until i saw the list

So got the truck back to the house, it had been stored at my brother in laws farm.

Got it cleaned up (yuck mice/ rats) and going.

Noticed power did not look right, yeah it had a bad alternator. Under warranty so that was nice.

I am trying to get it cleaned up for Moab and make some tweaks.

I ordered the roll cage setup from jegs, but will prob just use it as a roll bar.

I have not decided if I want just the back roll bar or do more of a 1/2 cage (meaning the front post by the dash, then the back post).

I also got a pair of yellow top optima's and re-did my battery setup. The last one did not work great. I ordered a new circuit breaker off amazon to use on the winch instead of the cheap one that came with it.

ball joints tend to be important on front ends... at least if you want to control the direction you go.

my list is getting way too long, and the only thing it includes for the trail rig is a roll bar and a tire carrier

trailer needs new brakes and repack bearings before I go.

All my trucks are fuel injected so can't as on the carb models....but it will be a vacuum line off the intake somewhere.

And just for reference the Haynes manual is like the 10k foot view of your truck, the factory service manual is the 2" view.

Gives way more details and very helpful. I never work on a vehicle anymore without a factory service manual.

But back to your issue, if you are only getting defrost vents then your vacuum control going to your climate controls is broke, or your climate controls are broke.

Easiest way is to start where you know there should be vacuum under the hood and if it is there, then remove the climate controls and check vacuum there. You have a leak somewhere.

Fix it and then it will work right, and I bet the engine will run a bit better too.

its not fun, but the foam inside is prob all gone. that requires taking the dash out (which means taking the windshield out) and rebuilding the heater core box.

The other thing is that this is vacuum controlled, and you need to check all the vacuum lines under the hood and under the dash.

do you have a factory service manual?
