Vehicle Help / Re: NV4500 slave cyl?
November 16, 2013, 01:42:26 PM
solved my hydro master/slave issue.

orderd up the correct slave for 92-93 5.2/5.9 gas engine with a nv4500LT

orderd up the Russel clutch adaptor to-AN fittings, with these I can make up a -3AN braided line to replace the plastic hydro line from master to slave.

another issue solved and on to the next one.

Vehicle Help / Re: 92-93 5.2/5.9 headers?
November 12, 2013, 09:25:55 AM
I think I have found the fix for my header clearance issue..

I have hedman 79080 on the truck list 72-88 2x truck

I orderd a set of hedman 75-91 2x or 4x4 headers, pipes 1,3,5,7 are all moved forward to make room for the starter.

my truck had a old set like these when I got it, i replaced them with the 79080 hedmans. with the 79170 hedmans, I had to R&R the header to R&R the LA style starter(foot note said low torque short starter only) but when I swaped to a mini starter I could R&R it with out R&R of the header.

the NV4500 bell seems to move the stater a little compaird to the 85 LA/727 combo I had.

I know when the hewders get here... here are the pics of the headers, #7 is out of the way.

I only need #7 tube to move over or forward 1.5" to clear the mini starter

Vehicle Help / 92-93 5.2/5.9 headers?
November 10, 2013, 07:47:23 PM
anyone with a 92-93 5.2/5.9 magnum with nv4500 5 speed running headers?

in the middle of my 5 speed conversion on the 85 truck chassis,91 pre-mag 318 with 92-93 nv4500 hydro bell housing...the min starter does not fit with the 85 2x truck chassis long tube hedman headers.

what headers does the 92-93 truck with manual trans use?

ramhead shorty headers like a 92-93 DAK

or do I need to go with pre-mag truck center dump manifolds, magnum truck manifolds with the manual trams bell.

any long tube headers for magnum truck 92-93?

big set back with this conversion as of now.. WTF to do now..

any pics of headers on amagnum would be great.

Vehicle Help / NV4500 slave cyl?
November 10, 2013, 07:39:58 PM
any one with a pic of the slave cyl mounted up on a 2x or 4x4 92-93 150/250/250 with 5.2/5.9 magnum engine?

need a pic for referance on which way the hydro line hooks to slave for line routing..(which way it is pointing..straight up or tilted to one side?)

I have a slave that goes on a 88-d100 v-6 2x chassis with the a535-5 speed trans. it bolts on the pass side of trans.

it is clocked/tiled the wrong way to bolt on the driver side with nv4500.

i can buy a slave for the 92-93 truck with nv4500 but then the ? is..how do you remove the preformed plastic line from slave and reattach it to the replacment slave?

it looks like a heat shrink tube on the slave nipple.

i skimmed over the instructions and it said to "just" hook the line to it..it is self bleeding and you pump it to purge air out thru the resvr cup.

anyone able to skool me on replacing the slave and bleeding the system?

a pic would be great of the nv4500 with slave cyl mounted showing the hydro line routing.

they list no repair line kit for the dodge hydro system..so how do you replace the pre-formed plastic lines?

yes, I dont see where they cover the dodge NV4500 gl-4 oil

they have a gl-5 which is not to be used from what I have read so far..has to be castrol syntorque or the GM NV 4500 oil

I did find a dexron 75w90 full synthetic gear oil that matches the GM part # but nothing on the dodge

it is a 92 light duty nv4500 2x trans has 19 spline input 23 spline output(IIRC?)

carbon fiber syncros which from what I read do not hold up in a GL-5 oil

got me it is all new to me, my first 90s 5 speed.

i did get it bolted up in the 85 chassis by triming/turning the 85 auto trans mount around and shaving the lip/edge of xmember to clear the 5th gear tail housing with xmember in stock location.

I had know idea the oil was going to be in the 100$ range to fill it.  but then again, i dont think the A535 light duty alum case 5 speed for a v-6 would last long.

from looking around at price, I did think I got a good deal on the NV4500 for 400 $

most I can find reading is it takes GM nv4500 oil or mopar NV4500 oil and maybe redline T-90 oil mixed 50/50 with redline MTF90 oil to get the desired oil viscosity needed.

been recomend to only use the mopar or GM oil

so what I know is it takes..

castrol 75w90 syntorque LT synthetic

mopar trans oil pn4637579 per plastic tag on fill plug on it

GM trans oil pn 12346191 or 12345349* or 12345577  = chrysler 4874464

the dexron LS 75w90 gear oil matches GM-pn12345349 as a gl-4 full synthetic gear oil.

not sure about these oils

torco rtf-gl-6

LE 607-90 wt   LE 606-80 wt not sure who makes this oil??

the dexron is 85$ for 2.5 gallons, i read the capicty is 1 gallon, but will beadding the alum PTO coolers to it before i fill it up so I will pop for the oil now and have a futre change for it..maybe? LOL!

Vehicle Help / NV4500 GL-4 gear oil?
November 07, 2013, 09:36:00 AM
where is the best place to buy the correct mopar oil for the NV4500.

I only find the GM gear oil but it does cross over to the GM part #

looked at the penzoil syncromesh oil and it coves GM Part #s but not the ones I am looking for.

castrol syntorque cant be found but there is a castrol full synthetic gear oil..could it be the mopar il or syntorque gl04 oil?

anyone use the redline t-90 in there dodge nv4500?

100$ to change the gear oil does not sound that good to me, but it is empty and i want the correct oil for the syncros made of carbon fiber.

Fabricator's / Re: Compressor Question
November 06, 2013, 09:36:53 AM
I agree 100% with the filter/water seperater when painting.

I have a 30 gallon 6 HP craftsman aircomp, I have a hose for the air tools that plugs right into the reg on comp.

when I paint I have a a filter/water seperater set up on a coupling I plug into the outlet on comp, have a hose just for painting and only used with this filter set up, I have a small regulator at the gun as it is HVLP gun.

I also have a forced air unit for a HVLP gun, uses a 1" air hose with a fan unit to force air thru to paint gun. this is the best for no overspray and misting paint in the air while working. makes a gollon go far with no spray mist waiste.

my first backyard paint job got the bubbles still poping after 3 yrs now,was before I got the new hose and filters.

2nd paint job turned out great, I will know about my 3rd one in a few weeks.

Projects / Re: Mild 318 Build
November 05, 2013, 09:08:39 PM
I know budget dictates everything.. but if you have a 86-87 318 it will be a roller lifter/cam block with a flat tappet cam/lifter in it for the trucks.

I used from the u-pull it JY the roller lifter/dogbones/spider/hollow pushrods/rockers and went to a lunati Vodoo roller cam in my 85 318 roller cam block.

I have pulled that cam and valve gear and slaped it into the 91 318 i am running now, and just a couple months ago i swaped the roller cam to a hughes whiplash roller cam for a lumpy idle and good street drivabilty.

no cam break in worrys, used roller valve gear is cheap wakes a 318 right up.

you can run a little more lift than the summit cam and get better HP/performance out of a better cam flat or roller.

the lunati cam specs

258/264 adv
208/213 @ .050
.485/.485 lift
108/110 ICL/LSA

whiplash
207/214 @ .050
.480/.487 lift
107/108 ICL/LSA

keep a tight LSA, keep short duration,go high lift works great on the 318 for performance

check youtube under old greenie for the whiplash sound clip of my green 85 stepside truck

Vehicle Help / Re: RC Running Like Crap!
November 05, 2013, 08:43:41 PM
well that sound better that you did take time to manually clean the carb. I guess the filter will work, just thought it odd to hook up a bad canister..it is not doing the venting any good if it is rupturd inside.

of course I am just the slash, burn, chop, hack, strip, kinda guy with stuff i dont understand. and never tried to learn how it works or to fix it.

I have fixed way to many by droping a points dist in and swap on a manual choke 4-v carb/intake and run them till they die..but never work on ign problems again after converting them.

I have never got a thermobg carb that worked and the only good BBD 2-v I had was on a 68 318 with no emissions.

that plastic piece is for the idle stop or idle compesator for when a/c is on...looks like the idle stop.
