General Discussion / Re: Random pictures

Pretty cool.   I just saw Ernest the other day and he was working on a customers El Camino.  They were building it from the ground up.  Everything looked brand new, even the frame.  Wish I had taken some pics.

Wanted or Trades / Steering Stabilizer bracket
June 20, 2017, 03:51:06 PM
Putting my Dana 44 back together on the RC. Hit a few minor snags along the way.  I'm looking for a steering stabilizer bracket that goes on the axle tube. Typically an angle iron with 2 ubolts. I figure that a lot of guys went to D60's or eliminated them over the years so I might get lucky. They sell complete bracket kits but for nearly the same price as a whole stabilizer kit.  Dirty or a lil rusty is no problem. I can clean it up.

Thanks, Richard

Well, axle is physically attached.  Had to fight with the lower ball joints to keep them from spinning.  Rained on, fought with mosquitos and then nightfall took over.  Hope to get more progress tomorrow.  Everyone will be at work so should make some progress....fingers crossed.

I would sure like to make the fall outing but once I get it to Noah's place I'm hoping to get a better determination. Right now, I'm working on making it mobile.  Axles on, top buttoned up and front end back on.

Just got my D44 back from the rebuilder.  Broken shim in the carrier.  Needed new bearings since they were pitted.  New pinion seal and bearings.  All set up and ready to go.

I took it to Nogalitos Gear but they no longer do axles or transmissions. They recommended a guy that does bench work out of his garage. Dales Auto Repair.  Real nice guy 2 week turn around with the holiday. Real reasonable.

So now to put on the axle shafts, knuckles and spindles.   In preparation, I've been watching videos and trying to find some good exploded views. If the rain will stay away, even though its forcasted through the weekend, I'll be one step closer. Getting excited again!

Vehicle Help / Re: Frame to axle brake hoses
May 21, 2017, 07:06:34 PM
I saw those skyjacker ones. They are $60 a piece.   The only difference seems to be braided steel lines.   I can buy 5 of the rear lines for that price. Lol

I think I'll just order the rear lines for now.  They come anywhere from 19-24" long depending on the brand.

I found an old thread on RCC about using a rear brake line for the front.

Vehicle Help / Frame to axle brake hoses
May 19, 2017, 06:05:26 AM
So I need new hydraulic brake hoses for my 76 RC.  Only a 4" lift so do I need longer frame to axle hoses? My thinking is probably should in case I ever go bigger.  Does anyone have a source for longer hoses that wont brake the bank. (pun intended)
I can buy stock lines for 10-15 bucks but longer lines run $60 or more.
