Title: 1988 Jeep Cherokee revs for no reason?
Post by: unfortunatewife on September 01, 2013, 08:55:35 PM
Been having a problem with my jeep for a while sometimes when she turns over it goes to a really high idle, its still drivable when this happens but the RPMs go extremely high ( i don't know quite how high cause i have no tac) we have checked the throttle and its not sticking so any ideas as to whats happening?

does it happen or is it noticeable when in park or neutral? if so then it might be your Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve. with age they can start sticking.  you can take it out and try cleaning it. sometimes it works some times it doesn't. if you do do this make sure to disconnect the battery so that the computer can reset.
