Ok Guys and Gals,
Fall Is quickly approaching and we haven't determined a Location or Time for are annual Fall Meet. Though as a group we are no longer hosting RamJam, I believe we can still do a Event Style Fall Meet with Awards and give away but on a smaller scale. We don;t necessarily have to do competitive events but could do what we did last year with the random awards that seemed to be a hit among the group. Some one needs to be the new owner of the hard luck award after Dave welds some more scrap metal to it! :lol_hitting:
So what do Ya'll Think? Are you ya'll interested in a big group fall run? And similar awards as last time? We could even do Member donated prizes if we don;t feel the need for dealing with sponsors.
My request on dates are the Following Weekends.... Mainly because they are the only projected weekends I have off do to my schedule.
Oct- 3-5
Oct- 24-26
Oct-31- Nov 2
Nov- 21-23
Nov-28-30
I'm all for doing Hidden Falls again since are familiar with the park and they have improved the camping area quite a bit since last time we were there.
Whats Your Vote?
The weekends of Oct 3rd or Oct 24th sound good to us. I've been jonesing for a little wheelin' time. Hope we can get a good turnout on this. Ron, Ryan and I went in October before and it was nice during the day and cold at night. Great campfire weather.

I will order U-bolts as soon as I get back so we can have them the second week i'm back. Once that's done will need to do some flexing and Measuring measuring measuring measuring ........... Probably going to need limiting straps and shocks.

I like Oct 24 date also, Should be Cooler Weather and its at the beginning of when I get back
Id like to go but it depends on work. Im in the process of starting a new project in the next week or so. I need to drag the Zuke out of the weeds and fire it up. The RC is ready to go. Hard for me to go that far on two days. Espically since I'll be working out of town...again.

I need at least three days. One to get there one to get back and whats left to wheel. From where I am its a good drive. Now Crosby or Huntsvill that's another story.

Granted it has done great before that on the other outings, especially considering all the work it needs.

I'll have to ask. :dontknow:
I wouldn't mind going and I have a wheeling rig/daily driver I can take now... But I would have to be home Sunday evening because I have my CNC machining classes Mondays until December.

Slowly Building up!
Has anyone heard from the Sam's? The Nice couple with the V-10 Dodge? I think they are still stationed north of Austin.
What about Rescue Ron and Danger Dave?
Dave can prolly be reached easily on FB. I'll text Ron.
As for the Sam's, have you tried a PM?
Do you think Lance will up for a run with the new bambino?

Noah Can get a hold of Dave, he has his numbers.
I haven't talked to Lance But I will shoot him a Email.
I'm Sure if Noah can't get his truck going by then, He will Tow Lances KEYSTONE With or without Lance :laughing4:
Lance said he wanted to go.
It will be a toss up between The TOP HAND PW and KEYSTONE on which one makes. Just depends if we get Noahs truck done. Who knows, They both might make it :steeringwheel:
But then Mine will probably break on the trailer before I unload it like last time...... :BangHead:

Good Deal! You can give us your official report on Moab!
Hope you can make it!
I'm game to go. I don't know of anything that would keep me from making any of the dates unless all of our boats get busy at the same time and then it might be possible for me to be on a boat.
I've used up a lot of my vacation time but I can work in a three day weekend. Oct 24 would be good for my first choice as it's close to a birthday issue.
Yellow truck should be ready by then. I can drive it now but still trying to figure out some of the tuning issues. The 88 Cherokee is driveable too but it wouldn't do to break both at the same time...
When we come up with an actual date, I have one of our contractors that might bring one or two of his non-mopar trucks.
My son has bought an 81 Jeep Scrambler. It's in enough pieces that we loaded it on the trailer and in the back of the pickup by hand. He will be ready to go some time in 2018.
Glad to hear you can make it Rescue Ron!
I say we decide on October 24 weekend since that seems to be everyone preference.
Anyone Appose To That Date?
I'm still thinking that we need a new name...
I figure since Dave finds a way to steal the spotlight each trip we just call it
THE ADVENTURES OF DANGER DAVE!!!
.......Plus Some other guys that follow him around to keep him alive......
Awesome looks like we will have a good crew. :great:
Any More interest?
Should we make plans for any events? Or just keep it with laid back trail rides?
Do we want to do random awards and giveaways again?
Personally, I would rather stay away from events but I'm just one old dude...
Don't get your hopes up for another fire pit. I don't have the time or the pipe to make one but I might try to think of something else.
I think just doing some rides should be good... if we want to get crazy while there we can improvise.
My brother in law seemed interested in going, he was going to look into it.
I have reserved my cabin, I mentioned to them we would prob want at least 1 more. let me know the vote and I will confirm with them.
Me and Pam have been discussing it. Don't think we will have anything to wheel in ourselves this time but we probably will go and keep yall company..lol. I'm still having engine problems with my Dodge and tomorrow i'm going to jack with the timing a little. Who know's maybe i'll get lucky. If i can't get it running right it will be for sure in April for a next year trip.
Alright, its only 4 hour drive for us. If I can arrange to get Friday off Im going to do my best to make it. Not sure if Ill have something to wheel or not. Not planning on bringing the RV either. :steeringwheel:James lets see how we can make this work. On a side note James we need to go the DSO. :great:
Sounds good to me Skip. I will check about if i'm able to take off the Friday too. I have a couple of unscheduled vacation day's left this year.
Hey guys I've been dragging my feet on if I can make it. The only days that work for me is the ones not listed. Oct. 11 Oct. 18
I leave on the 22 and won't be back for about four weeks. Then it's back to making money for the bill collectors. So not sure when I'll be able to go after that.
Although y'all will be happy to know I have two RC now. One that has a drive train and see through body and one that has a need for squirrel drive train but good body.
Not sure what will be running.
Mistress is always willing to fill in for a dodge though. :13:
I'm interested, depends on if my rig is running or not. My W250 needs some work with the clutch and my Ramcharger still needs some work to be running correctly.
Sounds like there might be a pretty good turnout. :13:

I had planned to be there on Friday but now I have to be in Denver. I should be able to show up sometime on Saturday. I will have to find out how they have the flights scheduled from Denver back to Texas.
Alright Skip i got the Friday off from work that we would need to get the hell out of here. We need a vacation..lol Just need to decide what ride we gonna take.
Looks like someone else will do the trip to Denver so I should be good to go, truck running or not. I will have at least a son-in-law and a grand-daughter as well.
We should finalize that tomorrow. Then I will go up later in the week and help take the display down. It's a display for some geological convention in Denver.
glad to hear you can make it.
It could be interesting to just see who and how many arrive with complete and working trucks. :laughing7:
With So many showing up with out rigs, We might have to get DANGER DAVE to Build that Rock Crawling bus he always talked about. :laughing4:
Okay, here's the score as I see it for my clan: Son-in-law and barrel racing 12 year old grand-daughter will leave College Station Friday night, whenever the last one of us gets free. I can't tell how late that will be at this point. It's doubtful if my son will manage to make it.
Will someone be there Friday night to get us in the gate if we don't get there before they shut up shop? We will want to spend the night Friday and Saturday in one of the bunk houses. If numbers are not right, we have no problem with bringing a tent. We have a new one (to us).
What vehicles we bring depends on which company vehicles I can borrow. I hope to have the yellow truck running good enough to break, since the registration is messed up and it will not be street legal. We will also bring an '88 Cherokee but we simply cannot break it because I have to drive it to work until I can get the registration through the state on the yellow truck.
I can almost see us coming with tandem trailers like Ernest and I did once but the last trailer is questionable. I'll have to find one with brakes and a legal license plate. That probably leaves Nick's trailer out.
Nick's daughter has a nice Bronco. I'll give him a shout to see if they would come.
We have lots of good oak at work and I will bring a fire pit and the griddle...
Sounds like I plan. I want to be there before the gates close. I should get out Friday about 2:30 or 3.
I have not heard any other request for the 2nd bunk house so its yours.
I should have a little room in mine if someone wants to deal with me and 2 kids :evil6:
Have any of Yall heard if the new cabins and Bathrooms are available yet in Camp site B?
they told me
Since we have opened the other 4 bunk houses we no longer offer that traditional cabin. We use it for our volunteer rangers.
which I took to understand the new cabins and restrooms were done, but I could be wrong.
I will ask.

Good deal Ryan, Just let me know. I plan to get a cabin also.
Ok, so I finally made it over here, awesome! I am going to do my best to make this run... my drummer is going to be out of town so we won't be booked that weekend, and I have two trucks running, so chances are good. I have severe sleep apnea now, so I need to be able to plug in my CPAP machine to not die in my sleep. I can pitch in on a cabin with others or run an extension cord out the window and crash in the truck, I'm not picky. I can probably swing an 'improved' campsite if I have to, but since its just me, anything I can do to keep the camping costs down will help. More money for gas and parts that way.
Our Hidden Falls runs are always fun, and last time I made one I had a broken hand and couldn't wheel. Then the hand healed and the trucks broke (might have been my fault). Then other problems, whatever. I'm back and ready for mayhem (as long as its not too expensive, gotta' think in terms of that patio furniture and toro mower ;).
Aaron,
Looks like I will have a bunkhouse that won't be full. We will be happy to have you share.

Ryan, Yolanda and I will take you up on that offer if its still open.
We still have 4 empty bunks in the second one too.
Ron, James and I need a bunk each. That way I wont have to bring the RV trailer I bought. Let us know.
okay folk, that puts me, Son-in-law, grand-daughter, Aaron, Skip, and James with room for two more in the second bunkhouse unless I left someone out.
That sounds good to me, Ron. I appreciate it.
So whats the Head count so far? How Many Vehicles?
Trying to get a idea of how many people we will have vs how many vehicles will be wheeling.
I know the seats in my RC are spoken for and Noah truck is spoken for him and his dad.
So lets do a roll call Who Coming , are you bringing a vehicle to wheel, and do you have a open seat for passengers.
Me- Bringing my 78 Ramcharger = Seats spoken for.

I guess you can consider Lance a kid for sure!
I will be there with the Top Secret Top Hand .....
Yolanda and I in the 91 RAM. I like the idea of taking your Dad Noah, I'm gonna have to do that when I get the RC going.
I am not able at this time to determine what vehicle(s) we will bring. If we come with the Cherokee only we will have seats but it's not a modified vehicle in any way and I have to continue to drive it.
If we can get the interference straightened out on the sensors for the yellow truck it will be there. I'm waiting on parts.
I will have either my 58 W300 Power Wagon or my flatfender Power Wagon 6x6. Either one only seats two, but I'll have a passenger seat open.
If we bring the RustCharger I have the back seat open. If we bring the Zuke we will have one seat.If we wheel the Ford :violent1: the back seat is open. Everything else is 2x.
Ohhh how i need a working dodge 4wd and i cant wait to one day make my cherokee 4wd :steeringwheel: It will be great just to hang with everyone even if i have to walk the trails..lol
Skip,
I still have your 4" tubing with the receiver welded to it. I may have to replace it for you because if I can find time I hope to put it into the front bumper of the Cherokee so I can have the winch available in the front.
I changed the rear receiver to a 2" version today so I can put the winch in the back.
I may have the use of a really nice ferd one ton 4x4 but it's a company vehicle and absolutely cannot be wheeled. It's way to long and way to wide for Hidden Falls anyway.
Ron
Looks Like it will be a fun turn out.
Anyone have suggestions for trails to check out?
Noah and I have discussed doing a quick break "in" run on are rigs since they are pretty fresh, then we want to try out that long trail that starts behind camp site A and goes to the park road past camp site B. This is the trail we drove into and realized there was a group already running it coming from the opposite direction. :steeringwheel:

I know it was Green Mile... we were all too chicken to do Bronco Buster. :laughing7:
And I hopefully taught everyone to not tell me something can't be done... I can usually prove you wrong.... even if it has to be an issue with the skinny pedal :evil6:
Ernest and I did Bronco Buster in my yeller truck going both ways. We broke it elsewhere...
I bought the wrong parts today and have to send some back. Anyone want to buy some Magnecor 8.5 mm wires for a Magnum engine for about $100. They cost $159 from the builders.
I have to order a custom set because we changed the distributor.

Heck even I did Bronco Buster. I've got the pretty little scratches, dings and banged up mirror that still rattles to show for it. :lol_hitting:
bronco buster 2 -3 years ago is not bronco buster as it is today.... but I will be more than happy to watch and bring up the rear if we decide to go down it.... go pro and all :evil6:
recall I had no issues on green mile last year... look what I did this year :laughing7:
Noah and I did Bronco Buster in the Cj7 and PW , But it defiantly has changed over the years. Last time we were there with Ryan, Noah and I went and did Slither in the 78 RC and it was a heart beating experience. The last obstacle in that trail has got rather nasty. Its the obstacle that I lost the drive shaft in the CJ7 and where Lance with KEYSTONE puked the transmission.
I'm thinking it will be another fun trip since all the trails change every time.
I just hope these new axles will last longer than the previous ones... the bigger tires should help I think

I'm Not knocking your methods, They are quite entertaining.
Remember , I was the guy just cruising around in 1st gear the whole time.
I think the axle upgrade will work fine, those are the same axles Will has on his RC.
no danger Dave but yeah always fun.
Can't remember, Did someone say they had a extra Cabin reserved that they would give to someone else?
Apparently they are all booked now. I just got a email back asking to reserve a cabin i sent a few days ago and they said they are all taken.
I got 2 cabins but Ron and others claimed the 2nd
I need at most 5 bunks in mine so there is room... just deal with 2 kids
I will keep you Update Ryan, I will see if one opens up. Maybe we will get lucky and have some good weather for camping. I did confirm that all the new cabins and restrooms are operational now. So that will be nice not to have to drive to the front or wait by that barn to use the shower.
But that also says if all the cabins are taken then it will be a rather large crowd for that weekend.
Is there a special event besides ours going on that weekend that I'm not aware of?
At last count we still have two empty bunks in the second cabin.

Noah and I are getting Closer and Closer to being ready to go. Still need to do some nick nack stuff on the rc. We think we finally got the suspesnsion to settle. It sits lower in the rear now. So Hopefully the front will settle out a little. The ride is amazing though.
I may have slitely "Trimmed" the Rear Fenders ;D
I found a deal on 35 tires and wheels... Noah talked me out of them... mentioned lots of trimming issues with my current lift and 35's.

Ryan, With my current lift and set up I've had to do some serious trimming to fit the 37" I have.
If your really not against hacking up the living crap out of your fenders you can fit them. I fit 36" with 4 inchs of lift with some trimming and they still rubbed, and my suspension didn't move much.
With the original 6 inch lift and 37" I had run on our last trip to hidden falls, the tires rubbed a good bit on the front fenders.
i would stick to a good set of 33"s if you want less hassle. Remember, Noah Has always run 33x12.50 on his PW on all previous Hidden falls run. And he got just about everywhere. Plus the 44 Front will last longer with 33's
yeah that's what I went with, just the temptation of bigger and better lol, but bigger is not always better. these 285/75/16's should be a good start, and they came with nice wheels to boot
About the yellow truck. I haven't had much time to work on it lately. I have done everything I could to make the signal from the throttle position sensor calm enough to run the acceleration enrichment. I have been unsuccessful.
Therefore, I am moving to a complete MAP based tuning and enrichment. It may not be running right but I will bring it if I can figure out a way to transport it. I'm hoping that with a little help from Noah on the acceleration stuff it should be in business.
We should also have the 88 Cherokee. I have it almost ready for a winch at both ends. (waiting on parts)
Looks like the purple Cherokee won't be coming. The wife's van is pretty sick and she will most likely be driving the PME. (purple mountain eater)
I'm still on the waiting list if a cabin pops up, but if not I'm going to camp. I need to buy a new tent anyways. Looks like the weather may be nice for camping also.
Do we want to plan to do any group meals? I'm always horrible about planning meals and end up buying random stuff at the last minute to eat ::)
I plan to haul my smoker again, I am sure we can always work something out.
I believe I am down to 3 (possible 4 if my youngest comes) in my cabin.. so room there if needed.

Good Deal on the smoker, that thing works well. Maybe we all can come up with some ideas again for a group meal.
I'm bringing my RCC Pit so we can grill on that also.

If you are bringing your fire pit, I don't know if I need to bring mine. I have lots of good oak if I need to bring it and I plan on bringing my griddle for breakfast.

No Problem Ron, Between Noah, lance, and I ,one of use will bring the pit out
Well, this week has been freaking awesome. The engine in the '58 seized up on the way back from my folk's place on Wednesday. No warning at all. It was running perfect, then it started squeaking like a failed u-joint. I pulled of the road to check it out and before I could even coast to a stop the engine was locked up tighter than a nun's chastity belt... then the idiot lights came on. So Friday I drove the yellow truck over to Brutal to talk with James about rebuilding the 354 Hemi I have for the '58 (that has always been the plan for that truck, but I didn't think it would be happening so soon). Then on the way home the FASS lift pump on the yellow truck died... I was at least able to cripple it back to the house on the injector pump.
I was planning on bringing the '58 on this run, that is not happening now. If I can get the yellow truck going in time I will bring it, otherwise I'll just throw the Rokon in the back of the pickup and see if it breaks too... then park employees can gripe at me for not wearing a helmet because I don't own one.
At least I can still look forward to going to the dentist this week. Oh, wait...
I still have no idea what we will be bringing or how we will get it there.
I do know that my son-in-law and grand-daughter will have to get off work and out of school first so we will not be able to leave College Station before 4:00 PM on Friday. I hope someone can make arrangements to get us in if we get there after the park shuts up shop.
Ryan, I hope you can pick up keys to our cabin and I will come with cash to bail you out.
Don't worry Ron, We will all get it figured out. A good chunk of us will be driving on New modifications , So there is no telling what will happen once we get there. :icon_scratch:
I am not sure when I will arrive, but will be sure to let the park know it will be late
Oh oh, Ron is coming and Ryan is coming late. Who is picking up the cabin keys?
I'll call Ryan tomorrow and we will work out something about picking up the keys.
Once again, who is planning on getting there first on Friday?
We are hoping to be there by noon.
Who is CONFIRMED for the weekend of October 24th at Hidden Falls? Wanted to get a bit of a head count and maybe see who is bringing what food / supply wise. :headbang:
Food is a pretty fluid type thing. We seem to all bring some food and we generally share pretty good. I plan on cooking bacon, eggs, some kind of fried poatatoes and toast on the griddle mornings. Usually bring hamburger meat and all beef hot dogs for supper and hope someone like the Garzas have something better. Often cold cuts and chips for lunch. (depends on how many broken trucks)
Ryan will have a smoker and there will be at least one, maybe two fire pits and a bunch of oak. Oak is already cut. Yolanda and Richard always cook something too.
It's only 8 or 9 miles to a grocery store so I don't worry too much if we need to go to the store. It's close to the parts houses too.
OK, I will be bringing a Coleman stove and plenty ole fuel.
I will also be bringing a small air compressor for camp; anyone by any chance able to bring a welder just in case?
I'm Going
No Clue what I'm Bringing for Food
Exhaust fumes for breakfast, and maybe a bit of tranny fluid for lunch. Rotella is the main course for dinner! :confused2:

Breakfast of Champions!!!
And I thought only Dave smoked tranny fluid for lunch. :hal:
Shoot Yolanda and I were planning on eating roadkill. Guess we'll have to bring real food now. :icon_scratch:
BBQ possum okay? :sign0137:
Hopefully Noah is bringing his infamous gourmet coffee.

You mean his Premium Mopar 300HP Coffee Maker??!! :laughing4:
They're having armadillo races at the fair this week. Maybe I can get a couple of them.
They gotta be nice and flat for dillo cakes. Umm good :tongue3:
I hear Dillo Chili is pretty good :tongue3:
One small thing completed.
New blinker bulbs?
I will be trying to get there before dark on Friday. If my fuel pump gets back in time I might even have a truck, otherwise I'll just bring the Rokon... its got a West Bend 820 two stroke so it's kind of a Chrysler. I do have a small plasma torch/welder I can bring, which might be a good idea. It's electric though so if its needed we'll have to find a place to plug it in... will run 110 or 220.

Skip,
I still have your 4" tubing with the receiver welded to it.
Ron
Use it if you need it. Im sure we can work something out.

Skip, The picture I posted up a post or two ago is your tubing, holding my winch. I just cut the ends off the original bumper and screwed them on to cover up the hole at the end. I will have tow bar fittings welded on tomorrow so we don't have to drive it out there.
anyone bringing an impact of some kind? I need to re torque my wheel spacers after some driving and don't care to do it by hand lol
So what time is everyone looking to be at HF?
I know that Ron and his family are coming in late Friday. I also know that Ryan and his family we there around dinner time. Yolanda and I are looking at lunchtime. Anyone else gonna be there Friday during the day?
I'll probably be there late afternoon. Between three and five o'clock if nothing else breaks. Looking forward to seeing everyone again, its been awhile. Looks like I'm just bringing the Rokon, but at least if I break it I don't have to worry about driving it home... :happy3:
Hoping to be there around noonish.... We will see
Here's a pic of us on the way.
cool... lets see some action shots!!
If you are like me, you don't know what a Rokon is. AaronS brought one and rode the trails with us. 2wd cycle that went just about everywhere that brass balls would dare to go.
Saturday evening we went up lookout mountain to watch the sunset.
Was real nice getting to see everyone again. Had to hang my thumb out :13: for this trip and i appreciate Ron and Ryan for letting me hitch a ride down the trails. Looking forward to our next outing. :steeringwheel:
OK a few more pics from Yolanda
some more pics
Following Ryan (rjtx667) up North Peak trail. The first obstacle we've seen many times and driven on the thin but relatively safe left side. Always wanted to try the right side and posed the question at the end to Yolanda. For you guys that wheel without radio, you don't know what you are missing. Lol :steeringwheel:

The saga continues when the momentum stopped. :017:
I wanted to pass Ryan on the right but slowed down with a change of heart. Momentum might have carried me through or a better line. In any event, we high centered on the rear axle. Eventually rocks were stacked and Ryan dug a little under the pumpkin. Then with help from Ryan's winch we came out of it.

Noah's Top Hand was down to 2WD by the last day. (His story to tell) He probably opted out and went on the left side when my 2X failed. Lol
After Noah came Eric in his 78 RC monster and then Lance in his stock RC. Watch for Lance to check the integrity of the wall with his new grille guard. Good times

The Troxell Repair & Restoration gang continues up North Peak trail.
Last 2 videos courtesy of Larry Troxell BTW (Noah's Dad).

Ryan's new and improved setup takes the tower climb and descent with ease. He is sporting new d60/hd44 axles, Lincoln err....Miller locker, 35" tires on Hummer rims, and 4.10 gears. Probably missed something but needless to say, Noah and Ryan did a great job on it since his RC took everything in stride. All this with the AC a blowing. No wonder everyone wants to ride with him. :sign0098:

Here's a video of Danger Dave somewhere along the fenceline. This was filmed by his son and Eric's gf. Dave titled it as, "Meet Stanley".
http://videos.real.com/r/6mhdpu
:victory:
This video is unfortunately from the bottom of the hill. Eric goes first without incident. Dave goes next in Stanley and rotates an axle busts a ujoint and then gets stuck between a rock and a hard spot (tree). Noah winches him out and Dave is left limping with only the front axle and a long ways back to camp. While this is going on several impatient trikes and quads pass through. For you guys that think our wives are genuinely concerned about the recovery process and their safety listen to mine and Noah's wife talk about what to wear for Halloween. :ecomcity:

Anyone else have pics or video. I want to see em before I fall off my Hidden Falls high. :happy1:

Ha ha, that's right you're in retail too. I came back from vacation and was told I will be going in at 4am until Christmas. Yikes, still trying to adjust. :tard:
