Post by: SixGun on February 18, 2015, 08:14:55 PM
Harbor freight is having their March parking lot sale.  The 12k Badlands winch is on sale for $292.44 and with a 20% coupon, that is one steal of a deal.  Lol

lol. it is definitely too cold to install it but not too cold to use it. this is the busy time of year for tow trucks and pulling vehicles out of ditch or snow banks. never had to pull a vehicle out yet you never know.

Last year when it was bad here I had my ramcharger out, but I did not think to put the winch on it, so I was running around without it.

Now its not even allowed on the streets. Those 35's and rear locker need attention before its streetable again.

but you don't quite have it as bad down there as we have it up here. on a lot of back roads the plows push the snow right into the ditch and people think the snow banks are the edge of the road so if for some reason they need to pull over they end up in the ditch

turing back? no... but improving the modifications is doable. I am thinking about upgrading the steering gearbox and pump. I don't have room for cross over steering (yet).

I also need to get a better locker setup, no offense... this one works... but if I want to street play it has to go.

Its just thoughts, because do you really want to drive a Ramcharger with 35's on 2" wheel spacers down the highway at 70?  :icon_scratch:  :dontknow:

Sometimes they come in the coupons in the mail or the weekender in the newspaper. If you are on their mailing list, they send them to you.

I'll see if I can find one and send it to you.

I would not worry about the wheel spacers at all.. just like a normal wheel... tighten all lug nuts to spec and  remove wheels to recheck tightness after a few hundred miles... just more lug nuts... dont over torque them

As for the locker I would say a detroit style locker would probably make you feel better.... you should find some 1st gen SRW d70 35 spline axles to drop in when you do it though... no difference on price for the locker and much less axle shaft wrap... you can find used axle shafts for about 50-100$ each

I went with a Yukon Grizzly which is the same design... it even says made in USA... we will see how it works soon... It was also a few$$$$ cheaper than a detroit

Another option is a Yukon spartan locker. They just came out with a 30 spline version. We would need to source another carrier for it though as the one you have may be pretty much permanently unusable.

One more option for you Ryan.... I have a used trac-loc.... it would need rebuild.... I will not be held responsible for the lack of traction complaints however  :evil6:

nope I like my traction, and besides we already welded it all up.

I will save and get a real locker that gives a little more movement for turns.

then also need a locker for the front.

first is the blown head gasket and fixing 4 high

I just found this link in clocking the HF 12k winch.  This can benefit anyone with a feet forward winch mount.
