Projects / Welcome back Carter
June 06, 2014, 11:21:30 PM
Ha ha... I know its different but you'll see why in a moment.

Well before you say it, What another 2WD??
Call me crazy but it was cool and a good deal at $600.  I figure on a daily driver or flip.

Its not home yet but let me tell you about Carter.  Literally bought off a Lil ole lady (72 years old). It was her husbands truck and he passed away. He was the original owner and it had 80k on the odometer. Interior is in pretty good shape with a small tear in drivers seat and headliner sagging. It will need some good cleaning though since it had insulation stored inside. Itchy stuff. There are running boards and good tires but ugly rims. There is a tow hitch in back and up front more goodies. Fairly new aftermarket radiator, flex fan, dual electric fans and a tranny cooler. Check out the motor. Aha.. There's Carter, Carter AFB!!  Hmmm...nice Mopar Performance valve covers. Looks like an aluminum intake also. There is dual exhaust too.  Sure would be nice if it was a 360.  Even a built 318 would be nice. I couldn't climb under comfortably since it was in the middle of a briar patch. Stickers for any dumb sunsabitches. Tall weeds, chiggers and snakes oh my.  Unfortunately no keys so door locks and ignition cylinder will need to be changed. Supposedly it was parked for a bad freeze plug. Hatch needs struts too.

Some of you guys may know RCC member "63a".  Layne was building a Ramcharger for his son but....long story short, its for sale. Real standup guy and is doing real good work on it. I know, I saw it in person. He's got a Bronco to die for. Ahem...cough cough. He has tagged and bagged everything and motor is disassembled but clean. There are some issues he can tell you about.  Here's the link. Be sure to ask for the RCC discount lol.

Vehicle Help / Brake Lines
May 13, 2014, 11:46:06 AM
So I'm surfing around looking at brake lines and by application, it appears to be either 1/4" or 3/16".   Are both used? Body vs axle or what? I don't want to tear off the steel coils to get an accurate measure if I don't have to.

Vehicle Help / Universal Joint Questions
March 24, 2014, 10:48:18 PM
There are so many u-joints available and how do you decipher all that madness.
From what I've been able to gather 1310 seems to be best choice.  1350 are HD but are over kill unless running D60 axles, 40" tires a nd a HP motor.  Then there is the issue of breaking a $20 u-joint vs an expensive axle or yoke.  Even with 1310 there are 3 choices.  Solid, grease fitting in body or grease fitting on cap. Seems that solids are stronger for obvious reasons with the solid body.  I read that grease fittings on the cap are better than on the body but I would think that it would still have a hollow body to allow grease to flow to the other caps.  Then there are the 7260/7290 for stock Mopar drive lines.  The 7260 being the smaller of the two.

Anyone have insight to this or words of advice or caution.

News / One Tin Soldier Rides Away...
January 04, 2014, 01:36:07 PM
I just found out that Tom Laughlin passed away this December 2013.  He was 82 years old and died of complications from pneumonia.  Growing up in the 70's, The Legend of Billy Jack was a big hit.  Rest in Peace  :(

Here is the famous fight scene.  He is one bad mofo in this role.

General Discussion / Merry Christmas
December 23, 2013, 07:36:19 PM
The wife and I just want to wish all you guys a safe and happy holiday.  Hope you get to spend some time with your family.

We are taking a little trip to see my side of the family this year.  Two of our kiddos are going with us. My folks host a Christmas eve party every year and there is usually a big turn out. This year is a little special since my Dad was just diagnosed with prostate cancer. He is starting radiation therapy in January. He is in his late 70s and recently starting to show the early signs of Parkinson's.  It's hard to envision him in a deteriorated state as he has always been a pillar of strength all these years. Looks like 2014 is gonna be a rough one.

Keep your families close at heart.  Merry Christmas

News / BADLAND winch 12,000 lb $299
October 25, 2013, 12:19:48 PM
I just looked at the newest ad from Harbor Freight and it has a coupon for the Badland 12k winch for $299 with coupon.  For those guys who don't get the mailer, you can pick up a coupon in store or online.  Quite a few guys in the Texas Chapter have this brand of winch and like it.

They just opened a new store here and there is a FREE no purchase necessary coupon for a Digital Multimeter.  I don't know if this one is in all stores.  The main item I am picking up is a pair of 3 ton jack stands for $15.99 with coupon.  Not bad so I thought I would pass it along.
