Anyone got any recommendations for beefing up A518 internals, starting with the torque converter? Trying to make sure all the power I plan on building into my '92 in the future, actually GETS to the wheels!
Ive mainly stuck with the upgraded ATSM converter but I know a few fellers that swear by the TCI or Hughes converters. They are a bit too pricey for my blood though. For those you looking at 250 to 500
Transgo makes some real good shift lits also. Even for the A518.
I've got a B&M Transpak for it, but Dave didn't install it. With then transmission fluid almost burned, and some rust on the cable, he opted for cleaning it thoroughly, adding the deep dish pan, and adjusting the bands. He said, that IF the torque converter is going south, the Transpak would only burn it up faster. He thought ti better to clean it up and run it a bit this summer, and then this winter, revisit it; see if the torque converter IS burning, and go from there.
I ran a B&M shift kit in a 72 Camaro years ago and it burned up my tranny. I swore that would be the last B&M product I would ever buy. There are some inherent problems with different models that the Transgo kits fix. This will be be my fourth TG kit. I like em. Just my .02

The link you showed is for a full manual stick shift valve body. May want to consider TF-2 to keep it an automatic.

don't think mine is the electronic version, because the OD lockout is the pushbutton on the dash. I shall investigate further...

Martin Saine Built my tranny and converter for the 2000, I believe he will work on the 46-rh as well. The 2000 has a 46-RE so the difference is its electronic governor vs hydraulic.
He can sell you a whole new tranny or just the converter, I can't recall price on the converter but its good and so is the tranny.
