Title: 87 Ramcharger monster
Post by: taz_man440 on May 01, 2013, 11:45:39 AM
Since I haven't started a thread yet, here it goes....   this is my toy ( project)..  I picked it up from Skip ( Toyradio). I got it cheap so I don't mind beatin on it....
It has 360 / 727 / 205 tc.  4.11 gears with a Hd 44 front / 9-3/4 8 lug Lincoln locked rear.  Full roll cage with 4 pt. harness & stock seatbelts. Has a 15 gallon fuel cell (which I hate). It is street legal but no insurance on it currently.

To do list is.
  Half doors
Ramcharger fuel tank / skid plate.
  D60 rear axle.

1st pic is pickin the rc up...
2nd pic is on trailer headed home.

I haven't really changed much. It got home with 3 different size tires.. changed those to a set of trxus 36" tires I picked up cheap...  Fixed a few wiring issues, and welded the rear axle.  Honestly figured the axle would have already bit the dust but ill run it as long as it will go.
Also added my old school 8000 lb Ramsey and a set of doors....  I will soon start the process of cutting the doors to make it better for me....

So far the only place I have taken it is Hidden Falls ORP.. lots of rocks  and the ram seems to like it there...

I can vouch for Will's truck.  That is one mud slinging, dirt breathing, rock eating monster.   :character0029:

Bet Skip wishes that he kept it now.

Bad thing is Skip said he never tried to play with it any.. .Don't think he ever got it started.... I drained about 2 gallons of water from the fuel cell, she fired right up.... Other than new oil & filter I haven't changed anything engine wise....  All stock.

So you all know it is technically a "farm" truck...LOL

that thing looks pretty cool. i wouldn't mind cutting the roof off my ramcharger and taking the doors off it but can't afford it.

All you need is a sawzall pretty much but where you live, in Canada, the cold air and snow would be miserable.   :nono:

What do you hate about the fuel cell?  For me it would be the bed space.
As for insurance, wouldn't it be "Farmer's Insurance"?   :laughing7:

Ernest is right, it is a bad ass rig.  It looks all business.  It may not be pretty but it is one of the toughest athletes out there.  Good combination with a skilled driver.

Will, I think I just saw your old club cab on a trailer. Did you sell it with the scoop on it? It was going west on I-10

After this last trip to Hidden Falls I ended up settin the front end on jack stands & givin it a check up..  The clunkin I was hearin on the trails was loose u-bolts on the driver side front. It let the spring pack spread out, nothing a big hammer didn't fix.  Then tighten the crap outta the bolts.  Good to go.... as far as the weak breaks issue, front looks good, so gonna have to check the rear for leakers...

Also the front slip yoke has quite a bit of play.. greased it up good & it sounds better....
Next is I need to add fluid to the transfer case.   It was rather loud in lo....
I even picked up a new rear diff plug $1.49 so its good to go....

Next project on it is to cut the doors down... will have updates when I start em...

Glad it wasn't anything major. Sometime this week I hope to get the Zuke to my buds shop and use his lift to check out the undercarriage and get some shocks on it.

Well, time to say goodby to the beast....   :icon_salut:

Been a good truck, but it will live on with the 82's body on this ones frame...

just for reference, 2 doors, a 4x4 frame, & the back bottom of a ramcharger tub from the rear windows back only weighs around 1000 lbs...

Yeah when I scrapped my 92 I was shocked how little it weighed without axles, wheels, and drive train.
