Spring Outing... we need a time and place.
Any suggestions?
I will say I still need time to address the issues on my rig, so would prefer nothing till late march maybe april sometime?
I still gotta drop an engine in mine and replace my seals and bearings all around
Sent from my XT1526 using Tapatalk
you may be in worse shape than me.
I have to fix wire harnesses and a computer and drop in a new transmission and t case.
Sounds like Noah with The Top Hand and Lance with Keystone are the only ones ready to rock and roll!!
I've got a blown up front driveshaft :violent1:
Wrenching party?
Cline Ranch has always been on my radar, but for Dallas people, that would be tough. Its located near lake Medina I believe. I have heard good things about it, but it appears as though they work only through appointment, and you have to have at least 6 rigs, or be prepared to pay $200 as a group, minimum. They also do not have the facilities that Hidden Falls continues to build with our $. From what I have seen on youtube....Cline Ranch may be a little out of our league at the moment. :dontknow:
With concern to date....I think if we go in any month near April or November...we are going to be wet, and by we, I mean me. Someone left Keystone's windows down again. :017:
Lastly, I hate to say it, but I would venture to say that HF has yet to be conquered in its entirety. Wet N Wild, Loose Rock, Slither'n and a few others mock me, and haunt my dreams, personally. Is that weird? If so, I know whom to blame.
I'm down for anywhere, should be up and running before we go

Now that I have a more proper towing setup I don't mind distance, but it needs to be worth the time.
I might also say, that maybe we should stick closer to home until we have less break downs?
Ernest is putting $$ into mistress again, tranny, front and rear ends.
but its not all pretty
I will certainly cast my particular vote for Hidden Falls. There is still plenty to explore and it seems to get more difficult each time, despite numerous Dodge "natural enhancement" modifications. :017:
When do the people with kids have Spring Breaks? :sunny: Is that late enough in March? Or are those weekends out because other trips are already planned? :victory: :steeringwheel:
I've been to Cline Ranch. There were lots of places that any of our vehicles could go. Aaron has been there too cause I got to help him up a place or two. Danger Dave set a 440 RC on fire there and had it rebuilt by the time we came back down at the end of the day.
Still, Hidden Falls has a lot to offer with facilities. I know I haven't been around much lately and at this point I cannot tell how busy I will be in the spring. We have been out of work for so long the job we are starting now is very high priority. And, it will last for over a year, bringing a bunch of work to my part of the company.
I'd like to work on the old red Jeep and I'd like to do some more to the purple daily driver but if I can break loose, I'll find something to take.
I have a wedding I can't get out of on the April 15th. So please not the weekend of April 15-17.
April 17th, I've got a birthday I can't change. :laughing7:
April 29-May 1?
That looks good to me presently. Seems to be far enough out to get everything done.
Or the weekend after? May 6-8?

Any other thoughts on dates?
I am liking April 29-May 1 at this point.
Hopefully I'll have my 79 up and going with its new 2000 model 360magnum and fuel injection by then, so late April early May would be good for me and I have a demolition derby on April 16th
79Goat, where are you located?
Welcome to the site. :hello:
I'd love to see what you do to get a modern engine going in a 70's truck.
SixGun my name is AJ I'm located in Caldwell tx outside of Bryan tx, I run around with Ernest and Ron(workgoats), and I'm excited to see what I do to get it running too lol but first I need to finish welding up the floor, I have a 2000 model 360 and a 1995 donor that I'm gonna use the overdrive Trans and engine harness in my 79 that way I can have overdrive also
And is there any reason it says I don't have permission to upload pics?
I believe I met you at Ernest's place. Aren't you the one that gave me a set of pushrods for the 383 motor?
Anyways, I will text Ryan and find out about the pic situation.
Yes I did give yall the pushrods
So vote time... who likes April 29- May 1 for the spring outing?
april 29th-may1 works for me
I'll be at work, 12-22 of April I'll be home, but it may not matter if I don't have my engine fixed by then.

So who has a running/functional vehicles for this fiasco.... :tongue3: ....Eric? .... Ryan?
As of saturday my rig is running again. Still working on it... but it can be and will be ready.
eric can ride in the back with Richard ... they can winch each other around in 2wd... :evil6:
That could be interesting... see who gets stuck more?
Nice footage of trails recently at HF, including Wet N Wild which is the very first trail scene. In fact that can opener spot is exactly where I turned around last time.

As it looks now, I can be there but I can't leave College Station until 10:00 pm on Friday night or early Saturday morning. I've got a high school senior grand daughter, doing her last high school performance on Friday night.

Well, unfortunately fellas, it appears as though I may be joining the list of "Too Broke to Attend". That could be $, or parts, or both. I will take a stab at it and say you found the tail end of a snake that made its way down your carb because you left the air cleaner off... and the snake was 1/2 into a cylinder and now its a mess everywhere?
Also I am sure there are tons of parts on carter that you could um... borrow? lol :evil6:

Last weekend I was helping Ernest clean out the shop some, he had an old 318 magnum that a customer ran out of oil and locked up... I tore it down and got the few good things off it to scrap the rest.

yup scrap the truck.... better idea... use eric's battery and strap ....he obviously wont need it :evil6:
eh you can be just fine without a battery strap... just know that it may let the battery fall info the exhaust manifold lol
Eric can I borrow your battery strap? I can buy one for $6, and have it amazoned to me, then send them a pic of my old one and have them pay me for it, orrrrrrrr render another vehicle completely immobile for the sake of complication and good ole natured pirating of parts.
Rubber bungie strap, $1 and will last forever. :)
I just use tie down straps :headbang:
Has the date officially been set? How does everyone's situation look for April 29-May 1?
I already took time off and booked the cabins so thats when I am going, not sure about everyone else? :dontknow:
Bought a tent so I am not helping my dad make one out of copper tubing.
what? did not like sleeping in a pond?
I need to buy a tent soon for boyscouts that camp out is the weekend before.
Well if you are actually getting one for cub scouts, and then boy scouts I assume, look for the true backpacking tents. If its a family tent, popup all the way.

Which cabins have yall rented?
don't know which ones yet, just know I have 2.
I am using one, the other is up for grabs... if Eric does not want it.
I will have spare bunks in my cabin, think I am using 3 maybe 4 of them so far.
I have to pay for the cabins 2 weeks before the outing so we need to figure it out before then.
My personal spot will be camping as I just bought a tent. However, I am definitely down to try and maybe plan bigger meals a bit more effectively. No reason to double cook if needed.
I will see if I can work on a "menu" of sorts that everyone can see what I am cooking... then if you want to join in you can bring your food and we will combine it and cook.
If you are bringing that Fire X Disk thing again, it seems like eggs, bacon and tortillas would be easy calls.
Also, I tried making the cobbler the other night. Looked like something they dug up from Pompeii. Whoops

I believe that the trail in the first video is Slither... where Eric broke a jeep ujoint once and Keystone begin puking ATF after failing to make it to the top
The fenceline is still a rough spot... Ernest did it on about the same line it is just a bit more dug out now... I would still not attempt it :sign0135:
Keystone was just leaking power not ATF. Ok I can't back that up.

Hey Ryan,
From Eric, Noah, and Lance's side, with concern to food. We will bring plenty of eggs and bacon and tortillas for two breakfasts. I will also bring my dutch and we and make a bit more desert.
Dinner....not sure. Would fajitas or something like that cook well in the Wok?
I was trying to figure out the best way to do this...
maybe we figure out a menu, then "estimate" the price of all meals.
Then one person buys everything and figures out the actual price and we all pitch in?
I think your breakfast sounds good.
We could do Burgers for lunch (both days if we want, they cook easy)
And dinner we could do fajitas or I can bring the smoker and do BBQ chicken or we could do the foil pack dinners I did last time.
and of course dessert.
The other question is when is everyone getting there? I am going to get there (hopefully) Friday Morning.
I am personally able to and plan to be there Friday morning as well.
The bear of one person getting it all, is that one person has to get it all with lots of coolers and such. If it is ok with you, plan on my bringing enough eggs, bacon and tortillas for X number of people. How many are coming with you, Ryan?
Who all is going?
Ryan
Eric
Noah
Lance
Ernest and Molly
Ron
Ricard and Yolonda ***Maybe***
I'll only be bringing enough for people who confirm. You can add my brother to my list as my passenger.
I only post this in case someone gets an idea to try out this "pond".

Funnier than it should be.
That kinda looks like the pond Dave went for a swim in except a little more flooded.
:headbang:
It absolutely is the same pond, with about 2-3 feet more water I think. No V10 to pull him out this time I guess.
Dave also did not go head first into the middle, he went about 1/3 of the way out.... at least the time I was there and he got stuck, was there another time?
Well he technically stuck himself in that same hole, twice, within about 30 minutes of one another. I gave up after that and moved along. Keystone was not having any part of it on bald 31's.

The 10 day weather forecast gives us about a 20-40% chance of rain for next weekend. I think it would probably be a good idea for any of those who are camping to plan on having some sort of extra rain coverage. Does anyone by chance have an extra pop up canopy?

In an effort to minimize waste, we were looking to try and do some group meals. With that being said, I am planning on bringing enough Eggs, Meat and Tortillas for Bfast Tacos both mornings on the big ole Wok if that is a go.
I can account for those coming from Troxell Automotive...if I do not hear from anyone else I will unfortunately assume you are not eating and will not bring enough, so don't be surprised.

Ryan, Count me in on the cabin but I may not get there in time to use it Friday.
I think I can come up with a canopy the company owns and will probably bring a small table or two.
Firewood is already loaded and I painted the fire pit again...

Hope you all have a blast and if you guys Rescue some Jeeps take pics and post them. Lol :steeringwheel:
I guess I'm next to pull out. With family stuff and work on daughter's and grand-daughter's cars, it will be better for me to unpack and stay home.
Just so everyone knows, Ernest will not be coming either. He has some family issues and work issues too.

Oh oh ... Is that yours Eric?
Indeed I'm running drive flanges now :steeringwheel:
Well the Top Hand made it all look easy, however it was not with out some fresh rash/issues. The right rear shock decided it would leak copious amounts of oil most of the weekend. Then there was a late night bombing run that resulted in some fresh denting of the left rear fender and clutch linkage that apparently decided that would be a good time to become disconnected. Made it back to camp with out the clutch and fixed it the next day with copious amounts of well placed zip ties.
I also prototyped some nifty carburetor mods that worked amazingly well. The truck actually runs after hitting acorns and small pot holes now! Actually it runs amazing now All stumbling/dieing/ smoking /hard starting and rough running in crappy positions has been solved. It actually runs well enough that EFI is probably unnecessary. We will make a how too with pics/etc using Erics RC so that this knowledge can be used by others here soon
All in all a fantastic time was had. Sorry the rest of y'all couldn't make it the weather was amazing and the park wasn't too busy. Next time will come soon enough...
It was a great weekend!
Damage result was one blown up seletomatic hub and probably two front shocks.
Overall fun was had and little critical damage was had. Fixed the hub on the trail and countinued on.
I did however have a difficult time making some obstacles . The top hand made everything look easy.
Keystone proved itself several times and I believe only avoided one obstacle .
The obstacle that I blew up my hub was indeed very frustrating.
The top hand climbed it with no problem and Keystone hit with everything it had with out problem.
I on the other hand did not fair that well. Several attempt ended in the broken hub, a shitty running motor, and a bruised ego.
It got to the point that everyone stopped filming and cast looks of pity on the struggling death charger.
It was at that point the Noah stated to get the strap.
That must of pissed the death charger off because a growl of exhaust and gravel started flying!
The death charger flew up the obstacle in angry fashion proving it did not require anyone's pity!
But it's obvious that the death charger needs some much need work on steering, shocks, and rear locker.
From the sound of it, I guess a lot of Jeepers backed out also.
Glad you guys had an awesome time. Was anyone else there other than the Troxell gang?
