The other interesting truck in his neighborhood is a 79 RC. It had a little rust so it hasn't lived its whole life in Loma.

My son, who lives in Lima, Peru, has sent me pictures of a couple of vehicles in his neighborhood.  This is one of them.  We don't know anything about this vehicle.  We don't know if it is a factory built vehicle or a chopped station wagon with the back of a pickup grafted on the back.

It might be a 4x4 but I'm betting it is a 2x.  Note that it only has one wiper base.  Lima is a real desert.  They might have as much as 1/2 inch of rain in a wet year.  There are months that have never recorded a rainfall.  Therefore, NO rust.

Anyone ever seen anything like this before or know what it really is?

The back of the vehicle sports a spare rack that doesn't look original to me but the light(?) on the left side looks like something that could have been factory.  Obviously, the rear bumper is "after market".

I have installed several.  You can get one from almost any vehicle but might have to fabricate a cable the right length.  I think you will have to fab something to hold the end of the cable at the carb too, but most likely you can get one that will work off of a newer truck.

Also, might have to cut a square hole in the firewall to plug in the firewall end of the cable housing.  I drill a hole and use an air powered sheet metal saw or a jig saw to square out the corners.  Might need a small file to finish.

She signed papers on her first new house yesterday and did manage to at least get the beds moved over yesterday.  Using ice chests for a refrig but in her house.  (all five of them...)

I built one using the Jeep box, cut down and without the a/c coil. It is almost too big. I will not get to work on it much for a while. There is too much going on.

How is the accelerator pedal?

I've only started it twice since I came home but it is still good.  I found another pedal last night so I might change out the cable or the little keeper.  On the other hand, there is nothing wrong with zip ties...

I was happy with everything on the rig except the rear suspension.  I came close to ordering stuff for a 4 link but bank account said "NO!"

So, in the mean time I have found an economical add a leaf for the rear.  I think I will be going that way and add some gas shocks.

I have a heater ready to install.  It is part Cherokee, part J-10, part 2x4 and I used a piece of an old real estate sign.  Problem is that I need to move the ignition module, voltage regulator, and some other stuff off the firewall.

Now I need to start thinking about closing in the back of the cab.

I found the hubs.  They both work but I ended up short one of the snap rings.  If the original hubs were retained with a snap ring then you don't need anything.  Also, I'll dig back to the bottom of the barrel and see if the snap ring is laying in the bottom.

They are Warn hubs.  I bought them new and there should be no problems.

News / Ryan's old tires

The tires are now mounted.  They are a match to the tires on her husband's Dodge pickup.

I'll try to get a pic in a day or two but she signs on her new house Thursday and is planning on sleeping in her new house Thursday night.  We may be busy...

Maybe we can get her to take it out next go round.

Thanks.

I haven't had a chance to weigh it yet. It "feels" like it is on the light side. But, anything would seem light after driving the red truck. The last time I weighed it (the red truck), it came up at 6,000#. I know the front is a little heavy with the 318/727 but there is not much on the rear. I will close the back of the cab and add a pickup bed but I have ideas to add a minimum of weight. I moved the cab back on the frame for a couple of reasons.  One, to give access to the back of the engine (distributor) and second, to move the weight toward the back as much as possible.

Technical Help / Carb on a Magnum engine?
October 29, 2012, 08:37:03 PM
Nick has decided that he would rather put a carb on his 96 360 magnum engine than deal with the megasquirt computer.   The engine is now in a 82 RC.  He originally wanted to pull a trailer but I think he now just wants a running truck.

The way I understand it, the LA intake will not bolt to the magnum heads.  Is there some approach to this, other than replacing the heads?

We have ignition modules, coils, distributor and all the other stuff we would need to make it work.  We also have an Edlebrock manifold and a Holley 4 bbl that would probably be big enough for the 360.

Can the aluminum manifold for the LA (318) be modified to fit the magnum heads?  Is there a possibility of putting the 4 bbl on the magnum intake in place of the throttle body and plugging the injectors?

I suspect this has been discussed but I have no internet at home and have not had the time to do much research yet.

I know the fuel pump might be a problem but we have an older gas tank that we can use and install an in-line electric pump rated for the carb.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Nick might be interested in some sort of trade too, but be advised that the engine has been set up for batch feed, instead of sequential feed on the injectors.  It would have to have a new harness or be rewired to go with a factory computer.

Seems that the new sheriff drives a pretty awesome old Power Wagon...
