Ramcharger.net 2015 - Dodge Destruction
In the advent of our previous meet of carnage among our group, I will dub this a meeting of Dodge Destruction.
So lets plan out our 2015 meet up.
Where do we want to go?
Do we Want Events?
Do we Want Awards?
When Do we Want it?
Lets start the Planning!
I'd like to have a vehicle that runs this time. I really don't have a desire for events but that doesn't mean I wouldn't enter them if we have them.
I have family that would go if we had it while school is still out. However, there are still so many activities in our family that might be a problem through the summer so I don't really have an opinion on that either.
We might be getting tired of Hidden Falls but it's still a great place. If we plan ahead, we seem to come up with the good housing, no matter how many other groups are there at the same time.

I'm all for trying a new park to have our event. The problem I recently discovered is several of the big hill country parks with rocks and trails require a 20-30 vehicle minimum for a weekend. This will be a issue with our group since we tend to run around 10 vehicles in our group. It may require us to do some research on our part.
This site may help our decision- https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=z95-biitgevA.kUkA1Nd_tJxg
I vote for super lift or big bend

 But I'm pretty sure this is one of the parks that requires a Minimum number of trucks to show up.
I am open to any park... but I would also like to have more than 1 meeting.... We can have 1 big meeting, then a few smaller "planning meetings" :laughing7:
1 in the spring, 1 in the summer, 1 in the fall?
Spring -summer -fall gives everyone multiple chances to go. Got my vote. Summer will probably be the big turnout with vacations and kids out for the summer.
I like this Idea also, that way everyone can just plan to make the one they want, or all of them. I know Noah, lance, and I will most like have a few weekend adventures at the local hill country parks.
So what is everyone Interested in doing?
I love going to Hidden Falls because of the Size of the park and the Free Range we have there. But I know several of yall want to try something different.
So lets start throwing out some ideas and some information on the places we want to go.
What we need to determine is-
Do they have a Minimum of vehicles required ?
Do they require guided trail runs?
What are the Camping Facilities?
What kind of park Trails, Mud, Rocks, Etc ?
I have too many things going on through this year to be involved with planning of any trips, but I'll go to whatever yall plan if I can. :steeringwheel: (http://:steeringwheel:)
HOWEVER, if you wait much longer to get started you will be getting close to finding every place occupied by some ferd group or maybe even a bunch of toyota guys. (I have been there and done that!) :happy3: (http://:happy3:)
Remember, you can't please everyone. So, pick a place, pick a date, give folk enough time to plan their vacation time. :read2: (http://:read2:) Remember that a bunch of us will live a long ways from where ever gets picked and free time will be at a premium as time goes on.
That's my :lol_hitting: (http://:lol_hitting:) two cents.
I already did my one big trip for the year.
My next vacation time will hopefully be picking up my junk from Ernest and then another vacation putting it together, I hope. :icon_scratch:

I've always wanted to go there. That place it pretty popular with some other Texas Groups. I would be down to try it out later in the year. I only say that because I don't think the Chevy is up to the task for towing the RC that far ::)

Looks like we both need New tow rigs..... Mine may take longer to get going.....
well why don't we plan a Hidden Falls run sometime in late March or April?
Hopefully my tow rig is in full swig by then. That gives us something to do and look at doing that park in the fall or summer?
Once my tow rig is up I might try to take a quick trip out there.

What about April 3-5 (easter weekend)
or April 17-19?
I would say March 20-22 but not sure I can fix the cummins and head gaskets that quickly. :violent1:

As of right now I will be on the rig April 3-5.
April 17-19 Looks like I will be home.
I would say for yall to decide on a Date because the current rig Im on is about to finish up the well and then my schedule may change. So I can't get a good date when I will be off.
I will try to adjust to what ever weekend is best for every one . But As soon as I know a more positive schedule, i will let yall know.
I have heard that the mud was like at Shiloh Ridge. Nick was going to check it out but changed jobs. Since he's 8 to 5 now he can't find time to do much of anything. But, he does have a Bronco...
Ok lets vote on this for the spring meet.
April 17-19

May 1-3

Sounds good to me. Road trip :steeringwheel:
that'll work for me... :steeringwheel:
I talked with Ron and he is not sure if he can make it or not, but he is aware of the date.
I think we decided the April 17-19 will be the date.
I plan to get a cabin, I won't have my kids with me so there will be lots of room. Will 1 do, or do we want 2?
Y'all take pictures. I have a broken collarbone so no wheelin' for me for a while.
Ouch, those are no fun. I fractured mine years ago. Never want to repeat that.

Shouldn't the "MoonShine" Numb the pain enough to go wheeling??? ;)
The issue is less about the pain and more about I just spent a lot of money having a plate screwed onto the bone to straighten it back out... I really don't want to ruin it.
It is reminding me that I need to get an RC put back together so that I have one vehicle with an automatic transmission... its a good thing my dad has a spare truck he is letting me use.

Damn that sounds brutal, I hope you have a quick recovery
It's been like two weeks and I haven't rebroken it yet, so I think it'll take. Should be in one piece by June, in the meantime I am learning to be more left handed than ever before.
Were you the one talking about Trees Ranch? I've been out there, its pretty cool but when they say come prepared they're not kidding. It's like 40 miles to the nearest gas at Garvin Store, and there's nothing else out there. I'd be down for a run out there sometime, those folks were pretty nice.
I haven't been to Tree Ranch, But i would be down to try it out in the future! :steeringwheel:
Anyone interested in doing group meals again?
Any Suggestions?
What are you good at cooking? :tongue3:

Fajitas

edit..... I make a mean cup of coffee lol :great:
as I recall its a mean cup as long as you have 120v :laughing7:

makes me think I came real close to installing a 3500 watt motor home generator in the old ramcharger body I had.... just tie it in to the fuel line & run some extension cords... was thinking I could install an air conditioner on the roll cage... but the trails would have probably killed it..

not if it was mounted on good suspension/shock absorbing mount :laughing7:
Cant make this trip, so yall all have fun, I will have to make one of the other trips. This Thursday i'm having my Dodge hauled to a shop to see what the hell is going on. Looking forward to getting it back on the roads and trails.
I'm sure there will be a summer run. Get her fixed and then drag Skip with you down here.
Will do. Once i get it running im gonna trim my bed all the way around just leaving the floor in with about a one inch lip. Then i can repaint the cab.
Ya know, you can remove the bed to paint the cab also. :laughing7:
So whats the count?
Me
Noah
Lance
Ryan
Richard
Plus the passengers we bring.
Sounds about right?
sounds right so far.
Did anyone tell Dave yet? He's always up for an adventure.
I'm scheduled to go right back to another rig tomorrow after only 5 days off. I've already cleared the time off with the manager but I might be on the rig right up to the last minute. :violent1:
as long as you get off, thats what counts :13:
I think Ernest is going to try to make it.
Whats the average cost per person on this? Sounds like a lot of fun, long drive but itd be worth it. Bring the womans ride too for the trip, no a/c in this rc. Lol
And are yall set on apr 17-19? If so i can make it out, tosh has to work so itd just be me and the R/C.
http://www.hiddenfallsadventurepark.com/#!park-fees/c1x9v
I think its $40 for a 2 day driving pass, then camp site cost and food and gas.
we are doing the 17-19. I plan to head out the 16th and get in late so I can start playing early the 17th. Usually play till 11 or 12 on sunday and head out back home.
Hope you can make it out.
Its just me do i need a campsite to sleep in the truck?
I am not sure their policy on that, you can email them and ask.

busy for sure, I was in my garage turning wrenches till just past 11.
Man am I tired today
Wish i could be turning wrenches, stuck at work til the 10th so its gonna be one new u joint and maybe a lil minor tinkering before the trip.
Ok, so far looks like im driving down friday, prolly head that way around 5 am so i can make it before nightfall. Jk Then the lil woman and possibly two or three kiddos headed that way friday night or saturday morning. Gonna get a tent and a/c when i get home.

thanks for letting me know I got to prepare for the LONG commute
What, 2 miles. I drive further to work. :tongue3:
it's exhausting.....

Just talked to Ernest. Looks like he's going in a new acquisition, a Suburban.
:13:
I wish I could go but there is just still too much happening. I did become the owner of a 69 bug. They claimed it was running when they parked it in 1993 or so. And, still paying on the 57 Powerwagon. I hope to go and pick it up pretty soon.
Going to the State Jr. High Rodeo soon. What do I do if she qualifies for National? (Des Moines, Iowa)

Is that Aaron's PW? Wasn't there a long road trip in its past?
Time to relive that moment. :steeringwheel:
Pouring rain over here. Its too bad they built over that mud pit. It probably would have been full this time around. I'm sure there will be some random mud holes on the trails.
Where was the mud pit??? Out front in the parking lot?? Lol
It used to be as you drove towards the primitive camping area. It was usually dried up except that time when it poured rain on us. Then Noah went out to play in it and we all followed. :headbang:
Aaron has a number of old Powerwagons. The one you have seen is a 58 one ton. The one I'm buying is a 57 3/4 ton. It was the first year any of the big three made a factory 4x4 with "civilian" sheet metal. They made about 200 of them with a factory V-8. They made similar numbers with a 6 cyl. and the half tons had similar numbers. I haven't seen any numbers on one tons.
Came with a closed knuckle Dana 44 in front and a full floater Dodge 8 3/4 in the back. Divorced transfer but same as a 435/205 in gears, syncromesh and pto options.
The beds and the cabs were used for several years but the front clip was a one year only. There are no front end parts available. Anything dealing with the front will have to be repaired or rebuilt.
One of the guys that does landscaping where I work has a Range Rover. He's going to a big function at Barnhill Mountain while ya'll are playing at hidden falls. I'll see what he has to say about that park.
He went to General Sam's with Ernest and me a while back. The vehicle was very trail worthy, even if he did bust out a parking light.
So, what is the difficulty on these trails? Ive got no winch and really no tow points at this time. Usually use the shackle hangers. Ah and no lockers.
several of us have been ther and rode just like that.
until last September I was running on 31" tires and factory axles. they lasted quite a few trips but I broke em good :laughing7:
then you upgrade and go again :13:
Anything from dirt roads to level 5 hardcore trails. Up to level 3 no problem. Level 4 depends on your rig and your ability. I've done a couple of level 4 trails in a 2wd truck. Every trail is different. When there's rain add one or two to the pucker factor. :laughing7:
Plenty of winches in the group if needed. Locker helps but not needed. Recovery points recommended so you don't damage anything. One in front and one in back. If you have a receiver in back, just pick up a hook. For the front you may need to get creative. Lots of ideas at www.OKoffroad.com to weld or bolt on. However, Harbor Freight and Northern tools can carry something you can use for a lot cheaper. Just remember to tie into the frame unless you have a heavy duty bumper. Factory bumpers are thin. I've seen guys run a HD chain across the frame rails to hook onto. A strap and clevis would be a good idea. Bring a walkie talkie if you have one.
What we did not say is, if you don't need help getting out of something at least once... well your just not having enough fun
:steeringwheel: :headbang:
You definately gain some confidance in your truck. Sometimes you will find your limitations. Getting stuck and recovering someone is all part of the fun.
Im all for pushing the limits, i dont even mind breaking stuff, however i do have to drive home so like windshields and stuff id like to keep intact and id like to not roll. Lol ive got plenty of ideas for recovery points and bumpers its just time that i need to invest to do it.
They've done some extensive repairs there at the park before. Usually a welder and lots of tools on hand. Town is only a few miles down the road with several major parts places.
Extreme worst case scenario, 2 of the guys are professional mechanics. One has a shop maybe 30-45 min away and another in College station probably halfway home for you.
Just take it easy starting out until you get a feel for what your truck can do. I drive mine every time there and back and still have a blast. No one is ever left hanging out to dry. Usually several empty shotgun seats if you're uncomfortable. But I do guarantee you'll have a blast.
just be cautious when they yell give it more gas, it has a point of diminishing returns lol
even when you pass the point it's still fun until stuff goes pop.
you will have fun, just use your brain and be cautious, which I am sure some will say is funny coming from me :laughing7:
Hey guys, I bought one of the snatch blocks from Harhor Freight and I like it a lot. I wish I had bought two. It was half the cost of the one that I lost or left somewhere and works as good or better.
Is someone bringing a pit. Yolanda and I want to grill something but we're lost without the grill master Ron. We have a big bag of charcoal to donate to the cause.
Ernest mentioned bringing his, and I plan to try and get my smoker on the trailer again.
I guess when Ernest's chebby catches fire we can grill on it. :tongue3:
We are on a hotdog ban this time around. There's always so much good food to go around that there's no need for imitation food. See now if we can talk Dave into some apple pork chops again...yum yum.
Are you packing yet? I was looking at the forecast and there is the possibility of rain tonight and Friday night. Depending on how you look at it, mud can be a good thing. :headbang:
Everyone have a safe trip and we'll see you tomorrow.
I will bring the RCC grille that Ron made with plenty of oak to cook with. Gonna hit the road Friday morning

Food for thought: Jeep/ATV trails = body damage. 3 trucks today.
Just checking in. We made it home ok. However, if anyone has had contact with Dakota or knows how to get ahold of him, Ernest is sitting by his truck alongside the road. No one is in it. Just wanna make sure he is ok.
Well it looks like Ernest has contact with him. Unloaded and went back to get him. Keep your fingers crossed.
Just wanna says thanks to all the guys and gals that showed up. We had an awesome time as always. Rain or shine we carried on and made the best of it. Lots of excitement and videos. Seemed like everyone had a camera in or on their vehicle. Maybe someone in the know can create a Ramcharget.net page on facebook to post videos. It is easier but seems like they are lost to the void after a short period of time unfortunately. Open to ideas.
In any event, special thanks to Noah for all the work on Dakotas rig and Ernest for rescuing him off the side of the road on the way home. You guys are the best. Ive been stranded before as have many of you. Some guys go above and beyond to help out. :icon_salut:
Anyways, until next time, take care of yourselves and your trucks. :You_Rock_Emoticon:
Ill update once i pull it apart, started tickin and shortly started "knocking" so i shut her down. Ernest thinks its more of a pop, like exhaust sticking open or head crack possibly. Had a lot of fun with you guys, hope to do it again. Worst case scenario im getting another 318 today so i can pull it and swap all my goodies over, maybe add some more while its out. Lol
Dakota, if it is a head, I left a 318 with Ernest when I found out my block was cracked. You can have those heads for free if it will get you running. Just have Ernest check them first to make sure they are ok. I'll get ahold of Ernest and let him know as well.
We had a great time as always. Made it home safe.... now we need videos :headbang:
Great Time!
Laura took lots of video, I will try to up load them this week, and all of the pictures.
Looks like all had fun....
Ya know, it hasn't been mentioned yet but there was a lot of battle damage this time around. Ernest and Dakota going through the creek bed on FM TRO got some brutal carnage. Eric took A LOT of hits. Trees were jumping out to hug him everywhere he went. Noah even with his careful demeanor this time around lost a valve stem on Bronco Buster. He showed me all kinds of dings on his driveshaft. Lance left a lot of blue paint on Bronco Buster. Ernest and Dakota bent their hitches. Ryan busted a rear leaf spring perch and pin I believe. Ryan also took a chunck out of his new rim. Hell even I tweaked the driver side front fender in a couple of spots and even though I unhooked the swaybar and rolled it forward, it bent the bracket. Everyone got back to camp under their own power except for Dave with a carb issue that he fixed that night and Ernest from the front gate when his truck wouldnt restart 30 minutes after he got there. New alternator and he was back in business. Ryan kept overheating and eventually removed the hood and he was good. Poor Dakota definately had the hard luck award this time around. Electrical gremlins all weekend and broke downon the way home.Did iI miss anyone?
Yup lot of damage here .... :headbang:

I believe we lived up to the name "Dodge Destruction" !
Don't forget the Victims of "The Hook of Shame"
Lance
Ryan
Dakota
And Lance Again.... :laughing4:
There was quite a few winch of shame awards... as I used my winch a good bit this weekend.
We had a lot of damage, but we did a lot of trails this time we have been afraid to do before... They were a lot of fun, but also very challenging and hard to get though.
We are going to need to try and buy some of those "x" damage stickers from uhaul so we can mark damage and know what is old and what is new :laughing7:
Looks like yall had lots of fun. Glad everyone made it home safely. :steeringwheel:
I didnt get the hook of shame! I was pulled back to camp via your rear right shackle on your bumper. Lol small detail
Hey Dakota, at least you didn't get pulled back to camp by some guy in another group wearing a see through spandex top with his nipples showing like Ernest did. From the front gate even. Ouch...now that's shameful.
:evil6:
Ha why are there not pics of that!?! Lol

I dunno....Ryan??? :laughing4:
Ernest wasn't the only one broke at the front gate lol mine ran from temple all the way to the front gate and died three times before i crossed the cattle guard.
spandex? i don't recall any of that around. :dontknow:
And Yolanda got pics of him working on it.... thinking of it, for that matter once it got back to camp I bumper pushed him into the spot to work on it.
Is there a push of shame? lol
Who has the videos of Ryan bashing into those trees and then bunny hopping over the rocks.
Also, when I had to self winch, with Ernest's help, up Feeder Creek.
Sounds like it was a fun trip... I sure hope to make a trip again soon... Getting my old goat armored up ...
Yah im thinkin a lil armor is a good idea for my next trip to hf too. And tow points
Yep, you never know. :sign0085:
I meant to ask, anyone have a clue what gears came in my truck stock?

4x's typically have 3.55's or so... I have had 2x's with 3.55 & 2.92's. Might check the new 2x you have Bull.. If its stock & something like a 2.94, get ready to re-gear or do a rear end swap if your gonna tow...
Dakota,
if you recall that sticker on the hood I showed you? like I said peel it off and take it under some good light.
It will have paint code, engine, gear, trim, all the good details of your truck right there.
Best way to know for sure. :13:
Ah yah thanks Ryan forgot about that. And taz im gonna swap the rear, thinkin d70 or 80 dually, throw some early 90s fenders on it with some cab lights, marker lamps and tailgate lights.

A lot of pics and videos these last couple of days from Laura and Eric on FB.
Thanks guys!
Felt like I was reliving the moment. :13:
Only bad thing is it makes me want to get the truck fixed and go out again ASAP :laughing7:
Ha, i wanted to do that as soon as i ordered my cam. :) i cant wait to get it put in and see what kinda power ive been missin out on. Lol
you have the bug now, starts there... then you will decide you need bigger tires which means a bigger lift... then the gears will be to small.
I bounced around on that list but it's pretty accurate. I am going back to add more lift :13:
Actually i think once i get the tow rig built im just gonna modify the body a bit to fit larger tires. Im not a big fan of lift unless its absolutely necessary. As for the axles im negotiating a dana 60 rear and 44HD right now.
What is the facebook page cuz the links are not loading
